Music Inspirations?

Music Inspirations?

To any and all SCP Authors: is there any music you listen to when writing? Or are there any songs that have inspired an SCP you've written? Or a song that reminds you of the SCP setting (excluding songs explicitly about the SCP setting).

I frequently listen to The Colour and the Shape by Foo Fighters whenever I write to keep myself from typing in complete, awkward silence. Other artists include Good Kid and admittedly Lofi-Girl from time to time.

I’m a bit of a wildcard when it comes to music. Honestly, it depends on how I’m feeling while writing or what the theme/genre is for the work.

Originally, I used to listen to Camelida’s music while writing to feel a little more immersed. However, I’ve grown distant from their music. Now, I listen to

• Shaboozey
• Linkin Park
• Three Days Grace
• Jimmy Eat World
• Hugh Jackman’s The Greatest Showman music track, specifically The Other Side

And a lot more that I’ve either forgotten about or haven’t listened to in a while.

I've actually been meaning to listen to some songs from Three Days Grace but I've never gotten around to it.

As someone who has one of their first thoughts when writing is what song I put on in the background, there are so many. Usually it's just my new favorite song but lyrics play a big part.

Using an article I have written as an example: Hopefully; We Are Together was made with pure emotions¹ from Expedition 33 Sophie's death cutscene. I had the cutscene on loop in the background as I wrote it.

Some artists I recommend for inspiration:

• Mili has lots of songs with deep meaning. In their second most recent song (Not my Paradiso) has some lines which could be really good prompts for writing.
• Ax0lott's songs have lots of longing to them. Stuff happened in the past but they didn't like it but can't help but want to go back to it.
• The Splatoon OST is actually really good. Mostly the idol music (Daybreaker Anthem, any of Dedf1sh's music, the credit themes, Three Wishes) but there are some songs you can't help but get inspired by it's weirdness. Check out any Salmon Run song because the philosophy for that game mode's music is "Break every rule about music we were taught." That's how we end with 31/16 time signature music.

Footnotes

1. I only did SPaG after those initial emotions.

I was surprised to read that part of the Splatoon OST helped inspire you in writing for the articles! I'll definitely have to take a try at that. Thanks for sharing! Definitely gonna be listening to these later today.
