As a person raised by a father who scared me into not eating beef (at all) and tuna (too fequently) due to chances of mad cow disease and mercury poisoning, respectively, this gave me a nice ol' chuckle over the paranoia of parenting.
For all of those who search the web
For, yourself, to please,
Do not look upon the man

Dude. It's a joke not about autists, but rather because of the anti-vaxxers irrationally shitting themselves over a disproven fear of autism being caused by vaccines.
Sorry! For context, my older brother has autism (I know, I know, but if you look up the book "Running with Walker", that's my dad's memoir about raising him. And me)
And as Aiden said, it's meant to be about suburban white parents freaking out over the idea of autism like it's some kind of death plague.
Still not particularly funny. The fact that I haven't heard/read anything about what you are parodying is likely to blame. Still downvoting, may change my vote at some point.
You haven't heard abou anti-vaxxers? Oh, damn. Google them and read up if you like, but "it's a doozy" is the understatement of the decade.
Warning: this is a good way to get palm prints on your glasses and forehead.
I almost feel bad for introducing them if they didn't know about it already, but I suppose they had to learn the awful truth sometime… D:
It would have been great if this sense of disgust could result in an understanding that we cannot do science by press conference and celebrity endorsement, alas, as usual, we seem to only have learned a new way to make fun of Jenny McCarthy. :(
Pretty obviously a parody of morons like anti-vaccers who use autism as an umbrella term for the worst possible thing in the world, which will happen if people don't do as they say.
This Aspergite is upvoting.
Autist here
I know I'm necro posting but this is getting my nerves
We, the community of autism, love to make jokes like this
Necro posting myself here too. Can confirm, I make jokes about me being a [Expletive X-Punged] around my non autist friends and they know that they can join in too. As long as it’s light hearted and okay with them, it should be fine.
Anything at all /can/ be funny depending on how the joke is told. This isn't making fun of people with autism.
I am aware that this isn't making fun of people with autism. I just don't find anything related to autism to be funny, even if it is a parody.
Then I'm very sorry for you. Some of us have terrific senses of humor - cf Michael McCreary.
I know I know, necropost, but really, we need a comme t-upvote system. Desperately. As someone with mild Asperger's I find this -J fucking hilarious.
After looking up stuff on anti-vaxxers, I've changed to neutral vote.
As someone who is autistic, this article is funny af. Come off your high horse.
and your drink has to go through a bunch of chemicals?
That's the only part I don't like, It seems to realistic for the plastic could be defective/poison somebody.
You know, I think that line doesn't work in context. Fixing now.
unnecessary circles?
Dave, You will be looked back on the same way shakespeare.
+1 for an accurate portrayal of people that make my brain sad.

This isn't just anti-vaccination parents,
This is overprotective parents in general.
Double the 1++

Come to think of it,
This even works as a joke on how the medical community jumps to conclusions.
