This is my first k-con skip, and I couldn't be more excited to post!

Huge thanks to my friend who talked me down from my first idea: a convoluted origin story for the Engineer and the Chaos Insurgency involving Foundation corruption and an artificial demiurge built by Nazis.

This was inspired by an article about some cannibal ants in a soviet bunker. It made me consider how ants and humans aren't too different in a lot of ways. Here's the article (Warning for lots of ants)

Image Licensing

The first photo is from Wikimedia Commons (“Formica polyctena 2.jpg” by Pawel Bieniewski, CC BY-SA 4.0, uploaded on 15 March 2020).

The second image, apparently, is from an online article about ants found in a Soviet bunker that the author Matthgeek also mentions. The article states that this photo was taken by a person named Stephan Wojciech, but there's no indication that it was released under a Creative Commons license, so it's likely not in compliance with the SCP wiki's license.

The second picture actually comes from the article "Ants trapped for years in an old bunker; survival by cannibalism and eventual escape", which says "This is an open access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0)". So I think it complies with the Image Use Policy (the -EN branch does currently allow uses of 4.0 images).

This was a fun short little read that works really well!

The dawning horror that the researcher is little more than a fly in a spiders web totally works out and the foreshadowing through the testing is great.

The short word count helps keep it punchy!

This definitely has potential, you definitely drew me in from the start, but I didn't find the reveal to be particularly compelling and for this kind of article that's the thing it's all building up to - unfortunately it felt a little predictable, but still didn't explain much.

short, sweet, definitely a 9kcon entry! I love the punch at the end that reveals everything and makes you understand why its a 9kcon entry

The ending was a bit abrupt I think given all the build-up, but it's still a neat, interesting idea done well. +1

This is an interesting little article! I do think it's a rare example of being far shorter than it should be. I think the progress from the researcher breaking their norms to them dealing with him was too fast, and as a result we lose what could've been an interesting buildup of dread. The audience would've had more time to properly draw the parallels between the researchers and the ant colony, and had a proper "aha!" moment before he's dealt with.

That said I did enjoy this for what it was. +1

This is my favorite in the contest so far! Doesn't overstay its welcome and there's enough foreshadowing where the ending clicks together in a really satisfying way, while still avoiding an "obvious" twist at the end. Loved it!

Very much enjoyed the twist here. However I do think this played out a little too fast with the development of the researcher breaking norms and figuring out the mystery behind the anomaly and the previous overseeing researcher. I think this could’ve benefited from having more buildup to let the audience have more time to piece together the pieces of the larger puzzle here, and to give off a larger feeling of dread. I enjoyed this as it is, though.
