And all that is now
And all that is gone
And all that's to come
And everything under the sun is in tune
But the sun is eclipsed by the moon

There is no dark side in the moon really
Matter of fact it's all dark

— Pink Floyd, "Eclipse"

Thanks to my co-authors MrBadFellow and Placeholder McD for a smooth ride under hilariously poor conditions, and a truly inspired performance! Always and forever a pleasure.

Besides the big one, our desired slots are:

1. SCP-9001
2. SCP-9500
3. SCP-9002
5. SCP-9179
5. SCP-9876

Failing that, whatever is lowest of what remains.

This is a genuinely entertaining romp, with plenty of twists and turns to keep me engaged. The buddy cop duo between Bradley and Karen was done so well that I had no idea while starting my read how well they'd bounce off each other. Also, it's good to see O5-0 again (at least I think that's who the Pariah is supposed to be), and yeah overall this was a very engaging mystery with excellent pacing that makes the length fly by. Great work, I had a lot of fun with this one.

HarryBlank 22 Sep 2025 08:12

You are of course correct. I'm glad the mystery worked as intended, and I'm much more glad to hear the pacing is right! Your generous readership is as appreciated as ever.

Im not sure if this will be a popular opinion, but I believe this is better than SCP-7000. This article is truly amazing, and I would be happy if it won.

HarryBlank 22 Sep 2025 10:01

I will try not to take offence that you consider one thing I wrote with my friends to be better than a thing I wrote by myself lol

Suspected difficulty level: extremely low

<I sigh in apparent rapture.>

This touches upon so many things that are important to me, and does so in such an expertly crafted and paced piece that was impossible to put down. I really couldn't get the smile off my face. With so many incredible entries so far, this still manages to be my favorite.

Partially because you managed to get a tear out of me.

HarryBlank 22 Sep 2025 10:02

Thank you very much Gabriel, that's extremely high praise and we are grateful for your tears!

this was a little confusing at times, but otherwise an engaging read throughout and definitely worth a +1
having that much dialogue really shows how good at writing characters all three of you are

HarryBlank 23 Sep 2025 08:35

We appreciate it! I find dialogue doesn't take the same mental toll on a reader as basically anything else does, so if you've got a substantial story to tell, it becomes your best friend.

I am ever grateful for your entirely normal and proportional responses to our stuff.

The Veil is one of the more interesting parts of the SCP setting. Most Urban Fantasy stories have the veil either implicitly and it's just not really enforced, or it is enforced through some magic process. In the SCP setting we instead get a veil that is brittle, painstakingly enforced at thousands of points through human decisions and not a natural state of things at all.

That always makes me a bit weary of articles that reduce the Veil back to magic despite the logistical issues that come with the Veil being realistically enforced.

+ More Stuff

I do think this still partly falls into that 'pitfall' for me with the brainwashing that just makes 9 out of 10 people disinterested and no one posting stuff like this on social media, but for the most part, I think it works by focusing back on its inherent unnatural brittleness. That it can be broken through curiosity, and that it is a human (or Foundation) decision to keep reinforcing it.

I do like how O5-1 talks about the Moon as this grand mystery that stood there for most of human history, but glosses a bit over the fact that we did at some point explore it. I think the Chronometrics justification for normalcy on a wider scale is also interesting, that each timeline without normalcy ends up eating itself, so the multiverse self-selects for the Veil. Fun to play with.

On a more OG-43 specific note, I think this is the first time we've seen Counterconceptuals here, and it's interesting that the Delta-T "Director missing" conflict seems to have been resolved by 2025 (or it hasn't and Ilse is scheduling this meeting from the future, I don't know).

And I'm always happy for more Black Moon interpretations. +1

(Also had to laugh at it having to be said twice in-universe that no, the Black Moon is not a metaphor. There really is a gaping maw on the moon feeding on our ignorance.)

The whole time I was reading I kept thinking (besides how good the dialogue is throughout and how good the chemistry is between Fellows and Elstrom) how does this affect what we wrote in 6500?

And then you surprised me with this being a shadow follow up to 6500 with O5-0 themselves showing up and giving one hell of a peak behind the curtain.

Other than my happiness at that, I just want to say how naturally effortless this flows. It doesn’t feel even 1/10th of its length. Bravo!
