[New Author Seeking Greenlight] The Theory of Everything

Summary:

A memetic-metaphysical phenomenon

[Seeking Greenlight] The Theory of Everything

Dr BT 10 Jun 2025 17:34

A memetic-metaphysical phenomenon that propagates and sustains itself across dimensional planes through the interest it generates. Attempts to comprehend its nature will lead to subject designation of a cognitohazard casualty regardless of any side-effects of this phenomenon visually present.

Seeking Greenlights: Yes

Page Type: SCP Article

Page Layout: Active attempts of containment procedures of the phenomenon by the Foundation. It's then followed by the description of the phenomenon, its brief history and cases of exposure to the entity.

Elevator Pitch: Non-physical memetic phenomenon theorized to represent a "unified explanation" of all known physical, metaphysical, and informational systems — informally referred to by some as the "Theory of Everything." Exposure to this phenomenon occurs through direct or indirect interaction with its structure, which may manifest in the form of mathematical formulae, conceptual frameworks or philosophical discourse.

Central Narrative: A conceptual phenomenon so fundamentally complete that even partial understanding of it induces catastrophic cognitive failure. Its danger lies not in its presence, but in its comprehension; attempts to analyze or even speculate upon it result in psychological collapse or reality distortion.

Additional Notes (Optional): The page layout is inspired by the page layout of SCP-002. The idea itself, though, is inspired by Albert Einstein's approach to conceptualizing The Theory of Everything through the frameworks of physics and mathematics. Progression of the Foundation's interactions with this phenomenon will be logged overtime.

Author, did you use AI to generate or assist with writing this material?

I did not use AI to generate or assist writing material. I did research on multiple SCP articles and tried to replicate a professional article. I did have a bit of support from a friend when producing a draft for the article and idea.

I did research on multiple SCP articles and tried to replicate a professional article.

Can you explain why your concept text does not follow the prompt noted in the forum's required reading? AI is notorious for being bad at filling out such prompts, since it fundamentally does not understand how writing for the SCP wiki works.

I did have a bit of support from a friend when producing a draft for the article and idea.

If your friend contributed any writing to your concept and/or draft, they need to have a wikidot account and be properly credited for their work. The SCP wiki does not allow account sharing.

Have you done any research on Theories of Everything past Einstein's initial idea - which was actually a Unified Field Theory, the precursor to the idea of a Theory of Everything?

Theories of Everything are very real things that people study.

A Theory of Everything is a term describing a physics/mathematical theory that unifies the four fundamental forces (Electromagnetism, the strong and weak nuclear forces, and gravity) into a singular force that existed early in the universe's lifetime, and became the four fundamental forces as the energy dispersed. That's it. They do not in any way attempt to explain "all physical, metaphysical, and informational systems." Theories of Everything come from physics, so by definition, anything "metaphysical" is not within the purview of an actual ToE. String theory and various types of quantum gravity theory are currently the most well-known, even though String Theory has come to somewhat of a dead end. For some time, gravity has been the major issue, as the electronuclear theory that links the two nuclear forces and electromagnetism is rather well-regarded. Recent advancements in science, such as quantum gravity and confirming the existence of gravity waves, are bringing us much closer to an actual solid ToE.

There are even dead-end ToEs from actual scientists, like Weiping Yu's Uon Theory, as well as supposed ToEs peddled by pseudoscientists, like Eric Weinstein's Theory of Geometric Unity or Chris Langan's Cognitive Theoretic Model of the Universe.

Fundamentals and Cognition

A ToE isn't some eldritch equation that only theoretically exists; it's something that scientists and mathematicians are working on right now, in the real world. Stating that this theory is so "fundamentally complete" that it breaks someone's cognition just by perceiving it seems like you're saying that such a theory couldn't be possible without it being anomalous, which is simply not a good basis for an article in my mind. It kinda relies on the reader not knowing what a ToE actually is.

Also, if even a partial comprehension of it breaks your mind, how has anyone been able to know enough of it to confirm it's even a ToE in the first place? Remember that you, as the writer, know these things automatically, but the Foundation has to actually have a logical way to figure that out in-universe. So how could they know enough about it to confirm it's a ToE and not just some nondescript anomalously incomprehensible equation?
