Hello everyone,
This is my tenth work on the site. Wrote this for 8kon within mostly a week and boy it was not easy. My longest ever work so far at 24.8k words.
The rough idea for a sentient NPC in a video game came a very long time ago during a night with my cousins. Been wanting to make something with that idea ever since, and this contest's topic finally allowed that.
I actually also wanted to post alongside my friend, Kensing as during crit we realised our beginnings and topics were unintentionally very similar, so we thought it would be fun to post these as companion pieces. Unfortunately, Wikidot crashed before he could post on the last day so now I stand alone. Nevertheless, he'll still post that article as a regular article, so I hope you all check out Labyrinth of Minos when it launches. Will make his day.

How does this relate to Fantasy?
1) It is a fantasy game.
2) Desires.
To me the concept of fantasy is living out of an individual's desires. In this story I present various desires and how they counter and play off one another.
The desire of a game studio to produce a next gen game to dominate the market despite finding something much more interesting.
The desire of a struggling indie developer to get his big break to the point of stealing.
The desire of the NPCs to gain sentience and live free despite the disruption it would cause.
The desire of a Stenmark to rise through the ranks of the Foundation through any means.
The desire of Martin to live amongst humans despite the costs of a physical body.
The desire of the Awakened zealots to experience all sensations of our realm regardless of morality and legality.
The desire of Sakhur to be more than just a monster and then to end his cycle of existence.
The desire of the Foundation to maintain normalcy despite suppressing an entire race of sapient beings.
We are all chasing a fantasy. The question is… how far will you go to reach it?
