If the page you are on "looks fine," it is most likely (but not certainly) because its theme is overriding the SCP Wiki's default Sigma-10 theme. If you were to then navigate to a Sigma-10 page, such as the Front Page, it would likely appear broken.
Alternatively, if you know for sure that Sigma-10 is loading, the error is most likely mistakenly appearing because you switched the Sigma-10 theme to a different theme using the ThemePreviewer module or another similar feature. If this is the case, and you are the author of the page, add the following code to it to remove the warning:
[[module css]]
#top-bar .ios-cache-issue-notification {
display: none !important;
}

this is an article thats been 5 years in the making. i first approached peppers with this idea way back after 4kcon, an idea of a knight without aname rampaging against the foundation.
this is its final form.
i would like to thank prismal, ori, harry, fly, and astersquill for looking at this, as well as peppers for being so cool to work with, and lost for being my personal hype beast.
we did it.
we are all scp-8000.
oh yeah, slot preferences:

Not of woods only and the shade of trees.

This was in the works for about as long as Taboo was. Sometimes the Peppers Pipeline pays off!
Endless thanks to Nico! Our back-and-forths never failed to inspire joy and new ideas, and you always seemed to have the perfect solution in pocket whenever I got stuck. And, of course, let's all applaud Nico for their patience in this multi-year project!
Thanks as well to Dr Lerche for crit trade! Check out his entry, Sentience!

thank you both for a splendid masterpiece
and for teaching me the ways of the wiki-verse.
I LOVE that I was able to crit this. I have a lot of love for this article. This is a ballet between these two characters, and the chestnuts game is such a brilliant narrative tool that allows for some truly fascinating interactions and bits of dialogue. Eager, eager +1
You said mine was my best work? Well I think this is yours.
Looked at this piece a few times during crit, and I'm definitely a fan. It's well written, especially the logs and I very much enjoy the progression which is of course aided by the CSS elements causing the fading and changing the background as you scroll. I especially enjoy the descriptions of scp-8000, and of the game of chestnuts in general, that's very fun.
That said I do have a few criticisms still of the piece (hey this was posted as I was writing these out to send as crit so I have to put them somewhere :p)
- "you are lost, and you are content as such." still don't quite understand what this is supposed to mean but the only thing it brings to mind for me is the idea of exploration or enjoying solitude, neither of which seems to me an apt description of SCP-8000. This is, I would say, treated as a revelation, pivotal information, so I think it would have benefited the piece to be somewhat more clear with that.
-The ending. Throughout the piece Martlet is shown to have a fair bit of freedom at the Foundation to do as they wish vis a vis 8000. We are told that Martlet gets reprimanded at one point but we do not really see any consequences to Martlet in the narrative and later we are told that ""I'm given a surprising amount of leeway these days. There are some in the Foundation, people like me, who are trying to change things." We are told by 8000 regarding Martlet "you are a prisoner, and you are content as such." but both that and the other bit are ones I'd consider telling rather than showing, there's no indication that I can see that the Foundation has prevented Martlet from dealing with 8000 as they like, or what way Martlet would have preferred to deal with 8000.
And yet at the end Martlet does the rather drastic act of breaking off from the Foundation, and implies potentially becoming an enemy of it. This doesn't make sense to me.
I could absolutely buy it if more of a contrast was built up between the Foundation's modus operandi and Martlet's way of dealing with this, perhaps if there were additional characters and if they displayed more of a traditional "Foundation" way of thinking.
Honestly that's nearly enough for me to novote rather than upvote, given I feel that portion of the conclusion/climax is so unearned. However for now I've upvoted.
I was looking forward to this, two great writers teaming up for an absolutely amazing piece. I love this! The character work and atmosphere are phenomenal, there is a real fantastical vibe here (heh, pun intended ofc), and the style just really works for me.
Easy +1, so glad you were able to join 8kcon!
When I read an article before it's posted, there's two ways it can go. I either experience it as a technical act ("I am providing crit"), or I get swept away and forget that I was supposed to be applying my supposed faculties at all. Guess which one happened here?
What you've done is create two fascinating, layered characters and placed them into a situation where they add additional layers to each other — which of course pays off bigtime with the reveal at the end. They take us on a thought-provoking journey which is so narratively satisfying that its gradual disintegration into narrative prose from clinical seems completely appropriate and tonally consistent. The dialogue absolutely sparkles, the characters shine, and I am left deeply invested in a relationship I was only just introduced to. As I might have expected given the authors, everything in my personal context that wasn't the story I was reading simply fell beneath my notice from the first words to the last. Thanks as always for sharing your talents with the rest of us.
This is probably the first article I’ve read which truly captures that mystical logic and aesthetic that made 4000 my favourite X000. Lest to say this is great. Easy +1
I am so happy this piece got finished in time, as after reading it, I don't think this contest would've been complete without it. This is an easy +1 for me.
Both of you are amazing writers. So happy to see this getting the love it deserves. <3 Really incredible job, seriously.
With love,
Dr Vikki Lost
I uh… have no words. This is the most beautiful thing I've read on the site.
+1. Holy shit.
I had to cut my reading on desktop short because I had to head out for school. In transit I went back to this article through a link in Twitter mobile. Because of that I noticed something that was not present in the desktop version. I don't know if that was intentional but it was a nice touch.
