Gee wiz! Its time for another Anderson article!

This is probably the fastest I have gone from idea, to draft, to finished product for one of my articles (I had a lot of downtime the last few days), as well as some of the most fun I've had writing in a while.

Ms. Fuentes is from Dr. Cimmerians Rogue AI article. Kappa-10 is from the AIAD canon of articles and tales.

Special thanks to TwistedGears, Randomini, TyGently, minmin, Roget, lurkD, djkaktus, Metaphysician, and ProcyonLotor for all their assistance during the draft review stage.

You are correct. I figured that whoever comes up with the names for the various protocols had a sense of humor.

I'd guess there is a whole bunch of them. Sitting in their various offices with random pop culture posters on their walls. Thinking they are hot stuff as they play their Dungeons and Dragons and what not.

I love that none of them do what they should, even for how advanced they are. And yes, I realize that's the point of Prometheus Labs, but this is a great example of that.

Well, the reason for this is that the Foundation literally stumbled upon all the failed prototypes. Hence why Phineas was so concerned about not rushing the process.

Also, this not a PL article, but I do appreciate the comparison.

Hooray for more Anderson! :D As soon as I read the description, I knew this had to be related to Good as New. The addenda, particularly the first eavesdropping log, is a little explainy, but overall, this is worth an upvote.

Yeah, the addenda is a little expository, but in my defense this article is going to be the launching point for another series of Anderson tales, so I really wanted to include the interaction of Phineas with the other Anderson members.

Bonus points because I get to have a sixty five year old man call someone a whippersnapper.

Overall, I enjoyed this one. I like the idea of prosthetic limbs that were rushed out the door and didn't do what they were supposed to do. The background in the addenda demonstrates that admirably without being boring to read. I enjoyed that there was a character that said no to a secretive organisation messing with the anomalous that wasn't murdered or otherwise killed by his erstwhile comrades.

I did find the overt Star Wars references a bit jarring though. I could see there being someone with a sense of humour making a SKYWALKER protocol, but then to have the Anderson robotics guy make a direct reference to Vader as well kind of feels a little far. On top of that, there's two robot themed MTFs noted in the article too, so it lends the whole thing a strangely wacky tone for a piece about malfunctioning robotic limbs and a pending biotech arms race based on mechanical enhancement.

Fair enough on the Star Wars references. I'll make a quick edit.

As for the use of MTF Kappa-10, and MTF Gamma-13, I feel that since these two MTFs have very fundamentally different missions their inclusion is not too wacky. Gamma-13 is the MTF specifically designed to handle all things Anderson. Meanwhile, since all the members of Kappa-10 are AI's, I feel that they would be a good first choice for looking into a secure database unnoticed. There is also a precedent for them breaking into MC&D computer systems.

I dig it. It's a nice little concise package that slots into the interaction between the GOIs well, and it's interesting to see what's happened due to bugs in the process. I'm curious what MC&D think of 1) their customers getting defective products and 2) their customers getting abducted, amputated, and anesthetized by the Foundation.

My biggest critique is that the transhumanist panic in the emails is very… surface-level, and could've been explored further. That might've been getting off into the weeds, though.

See I'm glad you've mentioned thought one there, because it was meant to be implied that Jason and Medea finished the products without the bugs after the Foundation acquired the first twenty instances during the 17/7/2015 raid. So now there are MC&D customers running around not only with working Anderson prosthetics, but ones that offer superhuman features.

As for the second question, I can imagine that MC&D are getting pretty pissed off. Perhaps this would be the making of a very interesting tale.

Jason… And medea… Like the ones who battled a giant robot. And the medea who convinced a king's daughters to cut him apart.

Here, Jason and Medea build robotics and stick them in people, who are taken apart by the SCP.

I'm not sure if I'm explaining it right, the gist is, this is a greek legend reference, right?

The names are, yes. They are established characters who have appeared so far in Meeting Anderson and SCP-2306. The names just so happened to also work wonderfully here.

I didn't really care for the story, and while the actual list of anpmalies was entertaining, I think it was a bit too short. Neutral vote.

Reading this 4+ years after it came out, I wondered whether this or Good As New came out first. When I realized that it was the latter, I was disappointed that it appeared we were getting a retread of the same basic idea (although "Eye points in the opposite direction of the host's natural eye" becomes much funnier if you imagine it as polar opposite, rather than opposite direction within the socket).

When I got to the video log, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the overall plot of AR¹ being moved forward, as the seemingly invincible organization begins to crumble from within. The two letters, particularly Anderson's lack of a closing beyond a signature, were quite well done. It was impressive that none of the characters came across as one-dimensional, even within the constraints of a video log/letter. Since I can't be positive, I will say that the "deal with the devil" line felt a bit trite. Otherwise, though, outstanding work.

Vincent can always find another glorified accountant. But he only has one of me.

1. Still trying to figure out where I fall on the "articles should stand in isolation" scale, but I think that this sidesteps it by being relatively understandable by someone who might not have an idea about the broader Anderson Robotics series.
