I like the death by blood filtering concept. I don't really like cranky objects that throw fits to keep them from being ignored.
The concept was more that the item is more or less alive, and uses its "pretty" factor to attract new hosts to feed off of. I'm open to suggestion, though.
I would concur. I don't think the compulsion to use is necessary. It's a fascinating enough item without any memetic imperative to use it.
I agree with the above statements, it's a great concept, but the mental lure seems unnecessary. The death by blood filtration, however, is a great concept, very fresh and creepy. A good entry, just needs some adjustments here or there.
I really like this version. It's not an antention demanding little pain. It works very well under the current version. Hey, it's so good I actually voted. It takes alot to make me stop being lazy.
I like this item quite a bit. But since it's no longer a memetic hazard, I don't think the Foundation would be trying to destroy it. True, it's a blood-leaching artifact that hides its ill intentions behind a month or so of utility. But that same unique utility would be enough for the Foundation to hang onto it.
It seems like a good start, but there's not quite enough… hrm… creep factor in my opinion. I mean, it's dangerious, check. And it's weird, check… but it's not quite creepy. Mind, not all entries need to be creepy, so you know take what I'm saying with a grain of salt.
It's certainly an interesting idea. Miiiight be something that works better then it should.
I don't see how, unless red bracelets are typically used in dialysis in modern medicine. "Works better than it should" would imply that the object is suppose to do what it does.
SCP-269 is what appears to be a completely inert bracelet, but when you put it on it starts feeding on your blood.
I like this.
"You are terribly ill, but I think we have something that will cure you. If you wear this for a month, it will cure you completely. However, if you wear it longer you will die and the only way to get it off is to lop off your hand. Don't worry though - we've only reattached hands backwards twice before."
Not meaning to rain on your parade, but AIDS is acquired immune deficiency syndrome…
There needs to be a testing log for this.
Expose test subjects to the various viruses and other infectious hazards in the SCP vaults, then study how this works with them.
Except for the 'cutting off your hand' part, it may end up as a better choice than SCP-500.
awesome….
But, just so you know (this can be completely overlooked, since it isn't important) there are two types of Jade in the world. The first and most common Nephrite, and the second is Jadeite. Nephrite is softer than Jadeite, and, when polished, lacks the luster of Jadeite. Jadeite has more color intensity than Nephrite, and is way more rare.
I was just saying this in case you wanted to clarify which type of jade the bracelet was. It seems like something a scientist would add, since they seem to add lotsa details about random stuff.
So, yeah…. How nerdy is it that I actually know about this stuff?
The best thing about it is that I can see this as being something someone created that doesn't quite do what they meant it to, so it ended up in the hands of someone else - like MC&D who would be HAPPY to sell it…
