AUTHOR'S NOTES

HERE WE GO!

A collaboration between kaktus and myself. Started after he told me he was wanting to do something BIG and I happened to have an idea for just the occasion. A thanks to him for dragging me into this, and for being so much fun to work with. A special thanks to Servbot and Randomini for their voicework, to Crayne for getting the mobile version working, to Decibelle for her help with Silva, and to Dmatix for his help with the Object Class (it's Arabic for "Broken" by the way). More thanks to those who looked at this in the drafting stage, including Decibelle again, minmin, Greenwolf, Cimmerian, Dr Leonard, Conwell, lurkd, and possibly other people I'm not privy to because kaktus is sekritive.

welcome.png, warning.png, and gocheader.png are all original works. apotheosis.mp3, statement.mp3, and bumaro.mp3 are also original works. Credit to Servbot and Randomini for their parts in bumaro.mp3.

I don't mean to be a spoilsport, but Maksur/Maksar (Mahk-sar) translates to "A place where you break things" while Mkassar/Mkassur (m-kahs-ar, hard k,) means "Broken"

Sorry if this is too old a post to reply on, just thought it would be important to note. Well done skip!

Native Arabic speaker here: Actually, maksur is pronounced mahk-soor and does mean "broken". No idea where you got the idea that it's a synonym for maksar.

I need to give some thanks as well, because this would not have happened without a lot of help from a lot of people who deserve all the credit in the world.

Firstly, thanks to Decibelle for her continued support throughout the entire project. I don't know if anyone got as many reads on it as she did, but she was always willing to do so. She's fantastic.

Thanks to Greenwolf, Kalinin, minmin, Conwell, Cimmerian, lurkd, and anyone else who got a chance to read this and give comments or critique of it. I really appreciate the time you gave for us, thank you.

As above, thanks to Randomini, Hoofsy, Crayne and Dmatix for their addition of things that ended up in the article. Your contributions were so important.

Thanks as well go to DrGears, without whom this thing wouldn't have happened. The Church of the Broken God was his baby, and I only hope we would've made him proud with it.

And lastly, thanks to TwistedGears. Since I joined this site, you have been my best friend and confidant. I wouldn't have wanted to do this with anyone but you. Thank you, man. You're the best.

Minor note, dissemination is misspelled in the initial O5 warning logo as 'dessimination'.

What I really like about this piece is how the story continues to build throughout. You get the sense of what's going on, but the implications of that keep piling higher and higher, just like the machine itself.

Also, I happened to be listening to this while reading. It felt appropriate.

Also, possible missing word in the first paragraph:
While connections with the Church of the Broken can remain available, the origins of the items are to be omitted or obfuscated.

I'm less than enthralled by the Factory link, but the rest is quite spectacular. I particularly liked the use of 2399, and even the nod to LTE 0913 Ex Machina.

Just wanted to point out that, no, the GOC don't proclaim that they killed God. German Occultist killed did, not the coalition.

Really fantastic job on all counts. Good job, everyone who helped make this happen. I was thoroughly engaged the whole way through, and the media, especially the images, really enhanced the reading.

As a note, though: I couldn't get the audio files to play on the page, the modules just said they were buffering forever… I managed to get it to work by opening the files manually in another tab. That's probably just an issue on my end, but figured I'd let you know.

Okay, an actual opinion: I thought I saw where this was going initially and rolled my eyes, because I really don't want to see someone's concept of exactly how the pieces of the Broken God go together and what it's supposed to do and the coming of the mechanical singularity, etc.

This… was not that. This is what happens when you try to brute-force immanentizing the eschaton.

Thanks for not doing what I expected.
