This definitely feels more like a vignette then a full story, especially since there really isn't any information here that isn't in the operation report and the emotional content is exactly as expected.

I kind of feel like this would fit better as an addendum of some kind to the field report. It's not quite strong enough to stand on its own, but the idea works.

So the thingy was a spaceship, huh?

I love the concept of amnestics and this captures the feel perfectly. Nice work.
