I love this format, and I really like the interactions happening here <3
Yeah, the Black Queen's council has this very nice Macbeth's weird ladies vibe to it.
I'm a little confused by the context of the last line by Sovereign though, is she pointing out that they could be described as the same sort of "phenomenon"?
Viridia's color (the one who mentions the phenomena) is red. Sovereign's is purple.
I am talking about the last line:
it would be kind of you to refer to me as a human even though i might not look it
Which looks purple to me, and the Page Source says it is the same color as Adrelintha's other statements.
Unless Zmax is saying that she isn't her at all even at the beginning, which I suppose the bit about her not updating her records makes sense, but if Hull was supposed to have replaced her then this is a major plot point that goes absolutely nowhere. I also have no idea why Hull would infiltrate the Queens, set up an agenda about sharing intelligence about himself and then reveal himself to potentially dangerous enemies at the end. Or why the other Queens are silent afterwards.
I don't understand what the context of that last, purple line is.
Purple text is Sovreign and the beginning, but the person at the end isn't her. It's just using whatever method they use to communicate. Sovereign is gone.
How is the reader supposed to figure this out? From the thing about the records? Why does this just end then? Isn't this a major twist? Why don't the other Queens react? Why doesn't this go anywhere?
I think I am going to change my vote to a novote, on the basis of this pointless and unsupported shocker ending.
Black Queen is a GoI? I thought it was just one person.
Aside from being confusing, I'm disappointed by this. The White Rabbit phenomenon was pretty cool, and this just up and explains it as the machinations of a bunch of reality benders. Like, way to kill the mystery. :(
Neutral vote. This was a little overly exposition-y for my tastes, and I do think the line at the end doesn't have sufficient setup to work properly. Nevertheless, I'm invoking the "this was interesting enough that I would read more of it if it was there" clause for this one. The idea of the Black Queen used in this manner was one that has some moves, I think.
I'm also refraining from a downvote because one of my issues, the fact that this is a little too close format-wise to a mainlist article, is an issue with the pre-existing template and not any choices made by the writer.
Is this based on some other article(s)? I got to this because I like the Black Queen-format articles.
If so, could somebody link it/them to me?
I'm just stopping by to leave a note, finally, for the sake of folks like Miki there. This article is indeed related to others, in particular SCP-2446. This was an entry into the MTF contest in 2016, which we centered around that SCP. It was really enjoyable to work with everyone on the team, and I wish I could have seen them all go on to keep writing.
