Interesting. That last sentence about not being carbon based feels out of place, though.
Yeah, that really should be in the description and not the addendum now that I think on it.
but how the heck a non-carbon-based lifeform could take carbon-based nutrition from carbon-based lifeforms (us)?
Well, they could just use carbon lifeforms to gain energy through catalytic breakdown, and gain substances actually needed as structural materials elsewhere. They essentially rend your flesh, then "burn it down" for calories, then go eat some *whatever they are made of* to procure reagents from which they will synthesize new components for their tissues using energy they got from breakdown of human flesh
One could say that, to these things, humans are glorified fuel cell refills ^_^
It's pretty good, but I do agree that the thing about them not being carbon-based seems pretty out of whack and would probably be better off removed.
When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
I liked this SCP so much I made a picture of it:
You can use it if you want
I liked this when I read it, I liked it even more when I read that diary entry, and it got an upvote from me, no question. There are a couple of minor things that bug me though.
First off, the sentence "SCP-745's genetic structure is not carbon based." I understand why this is here, but the placement of the sentence feels blunt and a little jarring. I'm sure there's a way it could be integrated a little better.
Also, the phrase "the child-like hand prints from SCP-745's front paws" doesn't seem very clinical, at least where it is. I feel like the description of the handprints as child-like should be alongside the other physical attributes. I admit, though, I can't think of another way to get across the creep factor of the handprints.
Like I said, I like this, and 42 other upvotes can't be wrong. These are just a couple of things that jumped out at me.
