Alright, it's up. This is a rewrite of SCP-396 "Displacer Chair" written by Kondraki

I'm quite sure a week meant a week when the rewrite team told us how long we had to send them our drafts, I had my claim staked on this too and intended to add the final touches and send my draft today according to what Decibelles said previously. I don't want to have to contest this but I remember that the team would review both drafts before allowing either of us to upload and there is still technically several hours until the real deadline.
No vote until this^ gets resolved.

Decibelles told me the deadline was last night. She told me she was deleting the page and I could post whenever I was ready. So I think my friend zoombie may have been mistaken on how much time they had left.

Well, I may not be happy since what I was told suggested otherwise. A rewrite team decision is a rewrite team decision but I'm quite sure I was never informed that it was last night and not today.

Responding to the closed staff post, I will say that it was a combination of tiredness last night, misunderstanding of the deadline on my part, and miscommunication between Roget and myself. The Rewrite Team is currently reviewing Zoombie's draft1, and I personally apologize for any disruption or bad feelings as a result of this.
This staff post is also closed still.
This has now been resolved. Roget's rewrite is the one that will stay up.
Eh…no vote, I do like it, it's an interesting idea but it doesn't seem to do much with it, like it builds up to a climax that doesn't really happen.

Both the Keter classification and containment measures seem excessive. Yes, it is hard to contain. But it doesn't really… do anything. How is this a threat to the Foundation or humanity?
A chair that can escape containment at any time and replace itself with any other chair in the world isn't a threat to humanity?
What if it replaces a seat in the cockpit of a jumbo jet? What if it continues to do it?
Those what-ifs are significantly unlikely.
Let's put it like this - the Shy Guy is Euclid class and much more dangerous than this.
96 was written six years ago, the class definitions have morphed a lot since then.
EDIT: Also, it's very easy to contain 96, so long as no one looks at his face, whereas this object is literally impossible to contain.
Object Class isn't about threat, it's about difficulty of containment.

Keter-class objects are anomalies that pose an inimical threat to the safety of Foundation personnel and the rest of mankind and either require extensive and complex procedures to contain or cannot be fully contained by the Foundation's current technology and knowledge.
Both threat and difficulty of containment are considerations. Dangerous but easy to contain? Not Keter. Not dangerous but hard to contain? Also not Keter.
This is a matter of opinion (because there is no one canon), but generally Keter denotes objects that are very difficult or impossible to contain.
If we're going off The Locked Box Test, which I am, this is a Keter object.
Because there is no canon, different people are going to have different opinions regarding specifics of Object Class definitions. If you disagree, that's fine. If you've got arguments supporting your point, that's fine.
But in the end, all you can do is downvote and move on. Trying to convince people of your own point of view doesn't work.
That definition comes from the Object Class guide, which I've heard from multiple sources is rather outdated.

Last I checked, the Object Class Guide HAS been updated. The page history shows it was made current as of December 2015.
I'd argue that the Keter classification includes not only danger to human life but danger to the cover of the Foundation. This is why 1548 is Keter, because it possesses knowledge of the Foundation and the ability to distribute it, even though it can't hurt anyone for several thousand years.
A threat to the Foundation's secrecy is, in a roundabout sense, a threat to the safety of mankind. And a chair that has teleported the pope poses an essential, hard to contain threat to the status of normality.

The author has decided on it, and likely found reason to use said object class. As for threat to the Foundation, 'threat' is not always "the Foundation is destroyed". It could be a case of "The public knows that there is a teleporting chair and wonders what else is there out there" — a threat to the Foundation's mission statement and shift of humanity's standard for "what is normal".
Basically this, threat to humanity or foundation doesn't necessarily mean harm or death. As for the shy guy being Euclid, the whole article is kind of based on how it should actually be Keter with the Addenda…if I recall anyway, it's been a while.
Pope Paul VI was displaced along with his throne, and appeared within Area-93 disoriented and confused. Light dosages of amnestics were able to convince the Pope that the incident was a religious experience, and a deal was struck with Vatican City government officials to prevent widespread coverage of the incident.
Hmm… imagine a Broken Masquerade scenario where the public knows that the Pope was "kidnapped" by a chair. Cue a cult of radicals conducting 'witch hunts' for 'demonic' chairs and declaring the existence of chairs to be against God's will.

That would actually be terrifying in the SCP-verse. We all know that SCP-2950 is just a chair. If it's just a chair and inimical to mankind for being a chair…

A minor nitpick: security at the Supreme Court is provided by the Supreme Court Police, not the Secret Service (which protects the current and former President and Vice-President and their families, visiting heads of state, embassies, and investigates counterfeiting), so Justice Fortas complaining about his chair to the Secret Service seems unlikely.
Other than that, I like this and have upvoted accordingly.
Did you see the discussion upthread? It has appeared on TV and has kidnapped the Pope, and it is currently barely contained. I think that Keter is definitely justified. If the closed loop works, it should be downgraded, sure but this is written from a slice in time with fairly clearly Keter containment (IMO).
I am however refraining from voting until the issue with whether this was posted a day early or not is resolved. ETA: upvoted
I saw the discussion. While hard to contain, its containment breaches are not disastrous enough to warrant the classification. Keter objects require more than exceptionally difficult/stringent containment, their breaches must constitute an unacceptable loss of human life, or be otherwise substantially damaging. The breaches caused by this thing have the potential for severe damage, but not, from what I can see, the imminent likelihood.
That is your definition of what Keter means, and clearly it is at odds with a definition of object classes that is entirely based on containment difficultly (the locked box test). Many people think that object classes should have nothing to do with perceived danger. Presumably the author is using that metric, rather than yours.
Personally I like the idea that object classes are principly about containment, as it puts the emphasis of the institution's classification squarely on what appears to be their main priority.

The locked box test is nothing more than a shorthand analogy for object classes, and many different "versions" of it exist. It is an oversimplification, an "in a nutshell" type of thing. I have never believed that object classes should be based entirely on containment difficulty, and even the current guidelines regarding object classes do not suggest this.
I'd like to point out this does pose a significant danger, not to human life but the Foundation's masquerade.
Yeah, kidnapping the Pope and appearing on television are both fairly significant breaches of normalcy.

I am fully aware that threats to the Foundation's masquerade can constitute a Keter classification. That being said, this object is not dangerous enough in that regard to merit the classification.

Highly unlikely. Keter objects require the propensity for disastrous breaches, not the potential.
