Elevator Pitch: A blight hivemind that has reality bending properties that is attempting to create a perfect pet. When big enough the hivemind is sentient and capable of lowering the Hume level of the area as well as having an incredible intelligence. The hivemind has the goal of breeding an animal which it desires and will use any means to achieve this end. The being which this blight is attempting to create is believed to be dangerous by the foundation. This fact may or may not be true, but due to foundation intervention, this being is thought to have never existed. But that is incorrect.
Central Narrative: The Blight is brought into the modern world when a foundation-based expedition into the Earth's crust occurs, and it is able to contaminate the equipment of the foundation. During an analysis the equipment is seen displaying usual Hume readings and a containment breach occurs, wherein the blight escapes into the open world. Due to its ability to exist as just a few cells causes the blight to be very difficult to detect and thus, outbreaks of it have to be constantly dealt with. However, due to the fact that the blight lowers the Hume level around itself, it is very detectable by foundation equipment in large numbers. At some point, it becomes large enough to be detectable by foundation spacecraft but is seen to disappear, the foundation assumes that some sort of resistance to it has built up in plants, but in reality, it became intelligent enough to hide its own Hume signature. This culminates in the blight creating a pen of sorts, where it breeds animals to have the trait of the being it is attempting to create.
Hook/Attention-Grabber: Probably some kind of disturbing picture with various photos of deformed and off-putting images of animals mutated in some extreme way.
Additional Notes: This would have the style of first, an MTF-log of an excursion into the crust, then experiment logs where it is shown to be very resistant to radiation and heat. An incident report of the breach. And finally an MTF log of an excursion where the pen is found and the MTF is wiped out by the final being that the blight creates.
