Time for the plunge
This being was born with the creation of the earth. it has no knowledge of the world, or why it exists. It simply has just existed. Periodically it would try to interact with creatures that evolved from the oceans in order to study them, but realized it only causes agonizing levels of fear whenever anything sees it. And every instance of life's organisms has proven to be horrified beyond mention of this scp. Not wishing to cause anymore undue stress and fear, it spends most of its time in a dense unpopulated part of a forest, covered in a mass of vegetation, in hibernation.
Before humanity, the only thing to disturb this beings rest would be a wildfire. The first human to discover this scp was around 2000 bce in central Europe by a native woodsman working in the area. After felling a tree nearby, the scp awoke from its slumber to investigate what had happened. The scp notices how different the human was compared to the other creatures of this world. While the human stood staring at the scp in complete ballshitting terror, the scp contemplated this creature that stood just a distance away. It found it curious how it seemed to have made things to wear, and its object that it used to remove one of its neighboring trees. The human started to cry and sunk to his knees begging for its life. This was the first time the scp had heard language being used. This proved to the scp there was definitely so much more to these creatures than the ones its studied in the past. After remembering that its presence terrifying the poor human, it flees to seek solitude deeper in the woods.
Throughout human history there have been rumored sightings of scp. Most are from accidental sightings of the scp. It puts in a lot of effort to not be seen, but sometimes it is just unavoidable when it has to be nearby humans to study them. Naturally, as the scp learned more about our culture and understood our languages, they didnt have much more to learn, and rumored sightings began to decrease in frequency.
This scp traveled the world following humanity, watching our progress. Once they satiated their curiosity, all they had left was to wait for more time to pass and observe the new changes. The being never made a specific time frame to do this. It simply wakes up every now and then, takes a look around, and falls back asleep if it deems more time is needed.
This pattern ends when the foundation discovers this anomaly by sheer coincidence.
Now, before you question why im choosing to go this way, let me explain how and why the foundation was likely to come across this scp.
This scp avoids being known by hiding from most organisms deep inside empty forests, while staying above ground. This is out of preference. They found caves rather dull and boring to sleep in. Plus this scp is in love with the surprise they get when the world changes to wake them.
Now the foundation is also in the business of having its presence be unknown to the public. They build facilities in locations that are isolated from public knowledge. They are constantly looking for new hidden locations to build these facilities, in a lot of the very same way this scp uses to find its places to hibernate. And one fateful scouting excursion a team of foundation field agents discovered this scp in a very dense Canadian forest.
The field agents had live video feed attached to their heads to record what they were seeing. Their recovered videos show every field member stopping after witnessing the ground shift before them. Something appears to come from a dense pile of vegetation, but there is nothing to be seen on video. it didnt take long for the leading field agent to turn and run. As soon as they did, every other field agent fled for their lives without a single word to each other. They rendezvoused a short distance away from the anomaly to regain their senses and report in.
This is where Lieutenant Craig Diaz was put in charge of containing an unidentifiable, horrifying, potentially dangerous anomaly by any means necessary.
Operation placeholder
Basically, what happened is that the foundation brought a lot of manpower, military avs, the whole deal, airing on the side of caution, to contain this anomaly. When confronted, each foundation operative had their own experience witnessing this anomaly. People shot at this entity without order, and purely out of instinctual fear. because of the affect that takes place when you mentally try to oppose this entity, anyone trying to harm the scp quickly ceases fire and refuses to fire anymore. Any round, shell, explosive, the foundation used had zero effect whatsoever. everyone else who hadn't immediately opposed the scp stood frozen, or since shielded their eyes and cowered in fear.
The scp's containment vessel was an armored box truck. The scp recognized this was meant to contain something, and realized they were actually trying to capture it, something humans have never attempted to do before. The foundation assumed from the captured video footage this was a medium sized invisible spatial anomaly that caused an immense amount of fear upon observation, figuring an armored transport would suffice.
After figuring out these people were trying to capture it, the scp just walked inside the box truck voluntarily. Where it was then brought to the facility.
During the operation, it was reported that scp was attempting to speak to various field agents. Lt Diaz ordered for an interview of this scp.
His interview
Before the interview was commenced, diaz ordered the door to the room containing the scp to be unlocked. After waiting some time, and noting how the scp never left, he stopped by to observe the interview in person. The form the scp takes is of his dead best friend. She died during an op under his control. Because of his commitment to duty, he never got the chance to tell her how much he loved her and wanted to be with her. This infuriates Diaz. The Researcher "placeholder name" assigned to the interview had a very hard time asking the scp any questions. She is trembling within her chair, she knows she isn't allowed to leave until she asks these questions but she finds herself completely unable to form words. Diaz isnt shaken though, He is pissed and decides to take matters in his own hands.
Lieutenant Diaz enters the room.
"Is this some kind of joke to you?"
"what do you mean joke?"
The scps voice mimics that of his former friend, but in a horribly aggressive and distorted way. Almost like a sick parody. To those spectating via surveillance, no sound is heard coming from the scp. This was added to the interview transcript later by the researcher who is still present in the room. She was able to recall the scp's responses from the interview
"What's your fucking problem?! Why are you fucking doing that?!"
"doing what?"
at this point Diaz is getting noticeably upset and angrier as time goes on
"Stop fucking doing that!"
its unknown to spectators watching survelliance what diaz was talking about exactly. He was seemingly getting more and more upset pointing at nothing
"THAT, THAT RIGHT THERE!! STOP DOING THAT!"
"i'm not doing anything!"
Diaz begins to approach the scp angrily
"LISTEN HERE YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE, YOU FUCKING STOP! STOP THAT RIGHT-" his hand grasps the scp's shoulder, " -now?…"
Diaz's voice shrivels from malevolence to almost a whisper upon contact with the scp. From a spectators point of view, its as if his soul had left him the very moment he made contact. His whole body tenses and his eyes shoot open, slowly looking around at his surroundings, then his head jerks around to look at something in the air behind him. He begins to breathe very heavily. His face a mixture of shock and complete terror. His head jerks back to look at the scp, and what he witnesses causes him to leap backwards onto his back, flailing all his limbs desperately to get further away, staring at the horrors that sat before him. He curls into a ball at the edge of the room and sobs quietly, trembling with fear, while whispering "i'm sorry… im sorry… im sorry…" repeatedly to himself. Diaz was admitted to the facility psych ward for immediate evaluation.
After some deliberation, this project was then handed over to Dr. Rebecca Hoffman.
Her Interview
Hoffman reviews the footage of the interview,
"…typical…" she says in a disapproving tone. She pauses the video the moment Diaz "touches" the entity. She stares at his hand, pondering how it looks as if he's grasping someone's shoulder.
Hoffman then orders for another interview to be conducted. Theres something not right with this entity and she needs to know what. She has her theories (which are later proven to be correct) and makes the assumption that not only is this scp completely safe, she has to face this scp herself.
When she walked past the window, the scp's figure, detailed in her character description, jerked its head to stare directly at hoffman. This motion caused hoffman to hesitate as she walked to the door. "so… its not invisible.."
"well… thats one theory checked off" she thought to herself as she struggles to maintain her composure. She knew exactly what the entities form was. For the first time in awhile, she feels uneasy. she continues to walk towards the door, staring at its handle the entire time she does. Once she was there and the scp was in her sight, she could only stand in the doorway. staring at the miserable creature.
She then looks down towards her feet. Takes a deep breath. Then begins to slowly walk forward. With every step her discomfort increases. Eventually she stands a short distance away. She raises her head to look at the scp directly. She struggles to breathe and she can feel tears begin to well. She closes her eyes, takes a deep breath, and extends out her hand.
This is physically all she was able to do. Words failed her. Every ounce of her being screamed to run, to flee the foundation, cut all ties, maybe even commit suicide. everything was wrong. It was like having your own psychological poison pour into your eyes and singe your very psyche.
The scp didn't wait long to grab her hand gently.
With her eyes closed, she remarks the scp's hand as texture-less. Infinitely smooth. In truth, all she can feel is the pressure being applied to her hand. It's grip is remarkably soft and reassuring. Rebecca rubs her thumb against the entities hand, exploring for a moment what it was like to be touching this entity. She opens her eyes. The facility is gone, the entity is gone, everything is gone, her body now looks exactly like the nightmare form. She recoils her hand. Her reality quickly shifting back to normal once she did.
"What did you see?"
The entities words echo tormentingly through her mind, threatening what sanity she had left. She said nothing. Instead, to everyone's surprise she took off he lab coat and draped it around the scp.
After doing this, Hoffman was able to relax more around the scp. Enough to begin asking questions. Eventually returning to her normal professional demeanor.
Hoffman asked every question it could and the scp answered every last one in truth. (list of questions to be made later)
After the interview was concluded, a full scp article was documented, this entity was labeled safe, and the scp was sent into containment voluntarily.
After her experience with this scp, she noticed how much more confident she was looking ahead at her life in the foundation. For once in a long time, she felt herself smiling, as if a huge weight had been lifted from her shoulders.
The Conclusion
Dr hoffman afterwards made it a habit of visiting the scp with new questions it could answer. She later proposes an idea to the foundation to allow this scp to work for the foundation. She spends a lot of time defending this scp's potential for training new foundation staff. It will do anything the foundation asks of it under a few conditions; they want a room to be built to their standards, they want to be able to go to this room whenever they feel like it, and finally partial freedom within foundation facilities. If its refused, the scp will simply hibernate indefinitely within its cell.
After some deliberation, the foundation agreed to their terms. A room was built according to the scp specifications and now the scp holds regular classes as a fear coach for new foundation employees.
to make it easier for them to interact with humans, a special vr headset is given to each of the students before entering the classroom, along with soundproof headphones. Students see through a camera attached to these headsets. This ensures you cannot see the entity, only the clothes it wears. The entity then lectures students through the headphones via a complex digital soundboard, ensuring that you cannot hear the entity. Periodically as an exercise, you are to remove the headset and witness the entity, then use the techniques described in the lectures given by the entity to help you handle your emotions when witnessing something indescribably horrifying.
Almost everyone who enters this course leaves more confident and fearless towards horrifying anomalies. The foundation starts to refer almost every staff member that shows potential to these courses more and more. This story ends with this entity finally finding a new purpose to life and a new home to relax in.
