I really like this one. It's very strange, but also amusing.
A photo of SCP-055 would be interesting. The biggest desire of the most unknown object. Creepy. :)
"What's this a photo of?" "Dunno."
"Hey, where'd that photo go?" "Dunno."
"Hey, we took photos of nine subjects but we've got ten photos here?" "Ah, that must be a mistake. Destroy the extra one."
The camera has been showing things that people desire and that they are currently NOT doing. Since 055's desire is something that it is NOT doing, it should be viewable and memorable due to the nature that we can remember stuff that it's NOT.
For example, I remember that it's not spherical.
Maybe 055's biggest desire is to be known and remembered, thereby turning the photo of it into a meme…
Not necessarily. We can remember what the thing isn't, but that doesn't necessarily mean that we, for example, remember what it didn't say (if it can even speak, of course).
And most likely, the written log would simply tell [DATA EXPUNGED]. I mean, explicitly showing the desires of one of the most mysterious objects in this wiki, that could provide clues as to what it really is? Yeah, that's totally going to happen :P
Wait…what are we talking about again?…
;)
Agreed about not wanting to ruin the mystery. However, I do think that this gives me an idea about SCP-055. Hear me out…
A lot about 055 is unknown, including how it got to the Foundation and why the containment procedures are set up as is. How do we know that the anti-memetic properties aren't also an aspect of the containment procedures, instead of an aspect of SCP-055? Perhaps whatever is in that cell can only be kept in there when people don't know what it is and why it's there.
So here is my idea. Add a step in the containment procedures specifically forbidding any experiments between 978 and 055 with a footnote reference. In the footnote, describe how some scientists suddenly found themselves amidst the Foundation hallways surrounded by wreckage and [Data Expunged], along with several dead bodies. The cause of death is inconclusive. The alarms are also on, but all recording devices have failed to pick up anything. The only noticeable change is that the new step forbidding 978 cross-experimentation has a time-stamp of right before everyone suddenly realized they don't remember the last X number of hours.
It's unknown who actually added that step into the procedures, but someone managed to.
I took a picture of SCP-055 and all I got was this photo of Milhouse. :?
Milhouse is not a meme.
*sigh* Someone had to say it, I guess…
When I snuck Dr Sorts into the extended test logs, the [EXPUNGED] picture that was hanging in the breakroom was intended to be SCP-055. Dr Sorts' two desires are to not be in the Foundation and to catch the uncatchable meme.
I wonder, what would appear on the photograph if the pictured subject was asleep and, therefore, could not have a conscious desire? Nothing? A random wish? The subject's dream? What the subject wanted to be dreaming about?
Would an agent or Dr be terminated if the photo that came out was them doing something like 110 Montauk? I'm sure a suspicious "desire" could be considered grounds for punishment.
From the article: Subjects are allowed to request photographs of themselves. Remember, people, just because some of the photos show distasteful things doesn't mean that you're going to do them. ~ Dr. ████
Also, I've always liked this one, but I haven't upvoted it yet, so, upvoted.
How about they take a picture of 597 or someone under the effects of 597?
Y'know, I read this one before, one of the earlier ones I read on this site actually. Just read it again. The guard and dog playing fetch made me just about audibly "aww". This is uncomfortable as I'm currently at work on my lunch break :|
I really, really want to see how Iris affects/interacts with the photos taken. Would altering the things in the photo change the subject's desires? Or would some other crazy thing happen?
I love this one so. It's why I don't understand the hate-on some of you guys have for crosstesting. Crosstesting is awesome.
Glad to be the one to tip it, well done on a good article.
