Yet Another Statue that Kills people is my first impression.
My initial idea with this was a device that killed people because it doesn't work well, not because it's inherently malicious. Conceptually, the device would be used to remove traumatic memories in a therapeutic context and then, if they were important memories, they could be reimplanted in someone else or the original host for review. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to come out and say 'the damn thing's busted, it's not supposed to cause the long-term damage it does', without some seriously odd writing implying omniscience on the part of the researchers. They don't know how the damn thing works, how can they know if it's working well?
Might want to change the picture there, son. The one up now seems to have a watermark.
eh, found another copy of the same image without the watermark, uploading now. Kinda odd, there's like 16 different sites all hosting the same image, all selling the same kitschy piece of crap, just google 'sleeping angel statuette'.
On a purely technical level you've got a few tiny issues, but from a conceptual standpoint I rather like this article.
Downvoated. Like others have voiced, concept is neat, execution is lacking.
I feel like this could be saved significantly if the "fear" effect on people who touched it was consistent with every subject—as in, everyone who touches it and starts to decay all indicate "fear" of the same boogin, implying the object is enabling them to witness some existential horror-boogin they cannot explain because by that point they've lost the ability to properly communicate
Kind of like being able to actually see "He-Who-Made-Dark" but being unable to tell anyone directly
I for one quite enjoyed this article! Of course there's mistakes, but that's because every article has those. Well done!
