Due to some discussion on art pages it seems sensible to add the following text to our rules on creating art pages:

"All art pages must be primarily created by the poster and as such cannot be works you commissioned or AI generated, posting on behalf of the artist with explicit written permission is allowed"

This discussion will go one for one week

I personally have a big problem with AI art being used on the wiki at all… but I realize this is not the point of this discussion so I will table that for now.

Concerning Art Pages, I think there should not be any AI generated images on art pages because it devalues the incredibly important role artists have in the SCP community. I think the pages should be specifically art you've created or images you've spent time editing, etc.

AI images showcased on an art page feels cheap, and completely contrary to the point of creation on the wiki (at least for me).

I’d say straight-up ‘no’ to ai art-pages, because most ai art (that isn’t specifically engineered to provide a specific output using artist names and source images) is too generalized to relate to SCP characters and creatures. On the basis that it wouldn’t be relevant to the community, I don’t think it’s worthwhile to host here.

I could see the potential for a spot for CC-compliant ai works to serve as like, SCPfuel or images others can use if they so choose, but it wouldn’t make sense as an art page, and could easily exist off-site.

Said it on #observer-discussion, but after some news (especially the one about an AI bro who stole a piece of art that the original artist didn't even finished), I'm convinced that AI art in general shouldn't be on the Wiki at all. Too risky and too shady to work properly.

Also, for works that were commissionned, yeah, it doesn't belong to an art page. If you commissionned someone to do a fanart related to something you did on the Wiki, you can put it in your Author Page or in the hub of said something.
