Vanka-Vstanka is the Russian name for Roly-Poly. Vanka — Ivan — is also a stereotypical Russian name, adding to the pun.
In the Ukrainian canon, Site ██ refers not to a random classified site, but to the one in Kyiv, the capital city of Ukraine. Its designation has been irreversibly corrupted by SCP-042-UA, a potent Foundation-made antimemetic anomaly.
One of the goals of the article was to demonstrate the difficulties the Organisation may face when executing its "mandate" under warfare. As it may be evident from the discovery date, the events of the article are transpiring in April of 2022 — during and in the immediate aftermath of the Russian retreat from the Kyiv region. Thus, missile, and artillery strikes, as well as abundant mining, do not allow for effective experiments outdoors, nor for the transfer of the anomaly to better equipped facilities, complicating the research task that would be otherwise considered trivial.
Buchan district of the Kyiv region was the place of heavy warfare, as well as of the infamous Bucha massacre, conducted by the Russian Federation against the local civilians. Russian Airborne Forces were one of the "elite" units deployed there to bolster the offensive.
