So… Simple story. This all started when I first thought "Hey, what if there was a robot sitting in a wood shack in the middle of nowhere and sleeping, waiting for fish to pop out?" and it ended up being this: A mixture of people becoming fish, fishermen robots, a fountain of oil, and other delightful ideas.
Massive thanks to

This was very fun to write and I can't say this was a waste of time. Now… For the spoilers.
I'm case you missed something, here's the explanation. Somewhere in the forests of Alaska, there's a Church of the Broken God cult that has reunited with nature instead of being so centered around metal.
While they are reunited with nature, they are complete automatons now, leaving their human bodies behind but coming to the realization that they need to come together with their cradle, Earth.
But they're automatons, and they need to function. So what do they do? They make a bizarre fountain of oil. They borrow a part of nature, and twist it, but always in exchange of giving Earth something back.
The Foundation doesn't really know what everything's about, but either way they just think it's better to leave the small ones doing their job and bother about keeping their own routines.
