Why do you think all those cognitohazards even work? Hey, why didn't I die when I looked into BERRYMAN-LANGFORD's adoring eyes?

Deep linking to Commons isn't the best idea, as info pages can have important metadata and files can get renamed.

Fucking awesome. I'll always love stories about the Foundation playing god and getting in too deep, and this one is made especially good by the hard science.

Didn't know about some of these irl "hazards" like Bucha effect and 17hz experiment, makes you wonder which version of the brain the reader is on. Great payoff, +1

Not exactly my headcanon for how memetic kill agents work, but I like the implications. I mean, if we are on the ██ SCP-2000 iteration, you'd expect the Foundation to have made a few useful edits by now…

Normally, I'd complain about blackboxes, but it works well here to drive the narrative forward.

Imagine an eye-aversion response in low-clearance documents, all the way up to killsprites in the top-secret stuff.

Oh! This is how the Foundation started using cognitohazards?

Within expected Bucha effect bounds.

wiki defined: Flicker vertigo, sometimes called the Bucha effect, is "an imbalance in brain-cell activity caused by exposure to low-frequency flickering (or flashing) of a relatively bright light."

This article is so detailed and clinical! I love it!

Recall of false memory concerning a deadly childhood car crash into a flower garden.

Call back to the roses used in the other experiment! :D

Subjects rode a bicycle to the nearest home-improvement store and purchased five smoke alarms and the components for an improvised explosive.

That escalated quickly.

The ending was a little chilling. It could be stronger, but as is I was still chilled. And what is the white text?

Overall, oh hell yea hard-scifi!

Appreciate the detailed feedback! I'm glad you picked up on some of the stuff I wanted to hint at.

On Ending/Whitetext

I considered the idea of expanding on the ending by writing a Tale picking up from immediately after the reader of this article sees the honeypot and tries to escape security, but it's currently still in the ether. Maybe once I mull a bit further.

The messages in white, I would imagine, are what past survivors of K-class scenarios with deprecated brain archetypes got away with, before (inevitably) they too were detected and met with termination.

I really love how this article subtly follows the theme of "luck" throughout everything.

Spoiler Alert!

The Foundation started by trying their luck with random modifications to human brains.
The reader is implied to have luckily evaded some of the cognitohazards.
Also, humans are now out of luck, as the O5s have apparently become control freaks.

Also the mentions of other fictional and/or real-life cognitohazards are spicy. Especially when it's implied that photosensitive epilepsy is a byproduct. The chills, the chills!

Interesting ideas, but the execution of it is not exciting to read. The plot of the 05/Foundation growing more as control freaks to dominate and have the increase dangerous occur because of it is a nice idea, however, the addendums and logs are dry with little interesting details except that the Foundation injected them with this and the subject(not always) react like this.

As it goes further we then get a little glimpse of the greater plot, however, those are also done dryly and quickly to the point where I did not even get a chance to fully experience the collapse of this world.

Well, the world isn't collapsing - it's not that kind of SCP. One aspect is that it's just a glimpse into why, over the past few (irl) years, the number of cognitohazardous/memetic entries in the wiki has been snowballing.

An interesting take on the progress of memetics, with the benefit of being a short yet technical read with a bold (though not very chilling) ending. It wasn't necessarily the piece for me, though I enjoyed the technical aspects and it didn't quite drag, so it was a fine enough read.

I loved the tone and implications of this piece. The ending was really cool. Although it was a bit hard to read it felt like an actual research paper and that made the experience enjoyable to me. The crosslinks were all cool and well executed esspecially those to actual cognitohazards (or whatever it was). This is definately one of the more interesting pieces of the contest. It stands out in a very good way. Solid article.
