Based on a true story.

First of all this was almost a cold post but Ralliston did me the kindness of reading it this morning. (adding in a thanks to Billith for pointing out a few errors after I posted as well). Adding another thanks to LORDXVNV for suggesting an even better ending. Thank ya kindly.

I'd like to thank the community for being there for me both emotionally and elsewise during this legitimately rough few days.

I feel so conflicted because I genuinely do like the article, but I feel like the end gets a little too… I guess preachy? Self-satisfying? Like I definitely get what you did and why you did it, but it just doesn't really resonate in the context of this article in the same way as some other fourth wall breaks have.

But outside of the article, I can't help but relate to it somewhat, because I genuinely have that fear as well. I empathize. I want to leave a mark on the world that's unforgettable. The fact that you based this on something that happened to the real Cimmerian and translated it to the avatar is genuinely cool.

So while I don't necessarily think it's a great article, I don't think it's something worth downvoting. I think it's something that's worth being on the wiki whether it's 7000 or 7-whatever. I'll be leaving it as a no-vote for the time being, but as I let this article sit with me I'll see if my vote changes.

See, I feel the exact opposite from you. But I loved SCP-3999 for the exact same reason. The way Cimm led us through in-universe comedy, then hinted at meta in the interview, and then said “No, fuck it.” and tore it all down to be emotionally honest? My breath was taken away.

This is my kind of article. Very +1 all day.

Edit: Oh; and the title is a pun on the whole thing. You are led from the very start on this journey. The craftsmanship here is chef’s kiss.

Mans almost dies, writes an scp about it and then breaks the 4th wall and talks about how waning the life we live is. I don't think this will win but respect.

When we were talking in dms, and you mentioned your 7K article being irretrievable, we discussed how you had an obvious replacement available. I told you to lean into quantum immortality/synchronocity and you said that God is physically incapable of killing you. I believed that the circumstances surrounding why you were elsewhere when it happened is indicative of the opposite, that if a Deity existed in such places, that it wanted you to live. I still think it is incredibly lucky and unlucky at the same time. Your article is the stunning outcome of a bad situation that could've been much worse.

No one chooses when they die, not really. But we all go down eventually. It's best to make peace with that, otherwise you spend your speck of time worrying about it instead of enjoying what you have to the fullest extent you can. I hope that you find your peace, Cimmerian.

This is really personal and touching in a way that doesn't feel forced at all, when a lot of articles like this struggle with pulling off their thing as naturally as this does. I really do commend you for writing and posting this. I don't think it'll win, but that's okay. I think it'll be remembered quite the much regardless.
