Hello. This is my first thread.
Here is a short introduction: Have you seen videos of the SCP Foundation? I have, and it was actually those same videos that inspired me to join the SCP Foundation. Now here are a few questions, for those of you who have consumed enough of this material and for those of who believe it:

• How well has the SCP Foundation's content looked on YouTube?
• Is SCP content really shared as such, or just the famous articles?
• Has it helped the site grow?
• Without YouTube, would the Foundation remain the same?

If you are a YouTube Content Creator, answer these two questions:

• According to you, what is the best way to represent an SCP in a video and what steps do you take?
• Do you feel your work is good? If you answer "yes" or "no", encourage your answer (no, this is not a test, I'm just interested in talking).

I see a lot of videos by the SCP story & Animation YouTube channel (which is owned by Inphographics.) The animation is crap IMO, and if I was not into SCP before I saw those videos, I think those videos would have ended my curiosity. The animation style can make any SCP seem 50% dumber. i dunno about other scp videos/channels.

How well has the SCP Foundation's content looked on YouTube?

There are channels that go very deep into the lore, respect the material and they're often part of the community themselves. Creators like TheVolgun and The Exploring Series come to mind. On the other end of the spectrum, you have videos like ''TOP 10 MOST DANGEROUS SCPS'' with text-to-speech content warnings that are more designed to say ''this is really spooky guys'' than actual warnings. That, and let's plays of people dicking around in Secret Labs. They're for different audiences and they have their place. Something else I noticed is that SCP content is huge in the reaction channel community. They don't always understand it, but as long as it brings people in, I'm in no place to get sniffy or dismissive about it.

Markiplier famously reads the wiki, and although a lot of very young fans go to the wiki to coldpost one thing and then never do anything on the wiki again because of his videos, a lot of established users and even Staff members are here because of him, myself included.

Is SCP content really shared as such, or just the famous articles?

Mostly the Usual Suspects. That's just natural. They're the most popular and there's a good portion of the fanbase that think only Series 1 is cool. The Exploring Series does a good job of showcasing newer gems, other creators slap 096 or 106 on the thumbnail for the clicks, and there's no use in getting worked up about it.

The absolute best are the short films in my opinion. The amount of effort, money and passion into those really shows that these people are invested, and the quality of some of them are astoundingly good. Videos like Dollhouse, the 096 short film, words don't do them justice.

Has it helped the site grow?

Absolutely.

Without YouTube, would the Foundation remain the same?

It would be MUCH smaller.

Rambling with likely some SPaG issues...

Have you seen videos of the SCP Foundation? I have, and it was actually those same videos that inspired me to join the SCP Foundation

I first discovered the SCP Foundation through an old Markiplier stream about a SCP-087 game, but did not give SCP further attention until mid-2020, following a spike in popularity on YouTube. I know my story is true for several other SCP enjoyers, and there has been spikes like this before, and they do shine some fresh light on this community. Without these videos (and games and other media), the wiki would probably have died off a long time ago.

I'll echo Lev on some points here.

How well has the SCP Foundation's content looked on YouTube?

From the videos I watch, I think it's pretty good, but it certainly has followed the unfortunate path most entertainment categories on YouTube have. That is where there are people who put effort into their videos, and/or show their appreciation for the stories, and on the low end of the spectrum you have people who do the old 2016-2017 clickbait.

Something that bothers me too is when people don't credit us properly. Obviously, it's not the end of the world but proper attribution is still important.

I'd say it mostly shows off the more popular^{low quality} pieces, but that's just the way society is.

I'm a bit opinionated and passionate on this topic (Particularly after SCP Illustrated stated in their vid that they canceled a video on SCP-001 (Ouroborous) because someone had posted a video on the topic while it was being produced. That, and a lot of this content makes me cringe.). I originally had a long post discussing how I've seen the downfall of the older channels and the upcoming of these newer ones, but I think I got a bit too passionate when it got to like 4 paragraphs.

Simply: I like the older ones, but they haven't been doing so good with the flood of newer channels that target their vids to children. And those new ones I greatly dislike, whether it's the graphic as fuck thumbnails (Mutilation, trypophobia skin material, or one vid with the title "Top 10 hottest female SCPs"), the often-times incorrect information being dispensed, or the manner in which it's dispensed, or the fact that it's marketing series 1 SCPs to children, I just really don't like it.

Most of these channels that pump out as much content as they can, can't count past 3000.

Has it helped the site grow?

Youtube as a whole? Undeniably. These new channels? A great deal of not in the right direction.

Without YouTube, would the Foundation remain the same?

Absolutely not.

I find your post quite interesting. In my case I have seen friction from users (on Twitter) of the SCP Foundation against SCP animation channels at the time, I must say that it is unfortunate that many of these channels take advantage of the fact that it is very easy to infantilize this type of content (ie horror).

I've been a Content Creator for the Foundation for about a year now, and it's an interesting journey. I'd have to wait for another wave of popularity to make SCP Foundation content look better on YouTube. 🌮🐦
