For the love of god, make an expiriment log for this.
mate someone could really make a good spin off of this article
I wonder if they really would've allowed the offering of 148, knowing it would most likely be lost.
Telekill alloy bit is being altered.
Just before someone leaps down your throat over this; people don't like it when you post on the forums as a researcher. I know, you signed it with a blacked-out name that was not your own, but the unspoken rules on in-character posting are pretty strict.
It is in no way copious. Also, Telekill alloy is SEVERELY restricted, due to over use.

Since when, Unimport? Doctor Bright, for example, signs most of his creations personally. I think before you begin admonishing others, you should check to see if you actually know what you're talking about.
EDIT: Oops, you meant in the discussion page. I see… Ah, well, Forget what I said then. I'll leave this post that others may see it and not repeat such heinous dumbfuckery.
I'm not admonishing him, I'm warning him. And I'm speaking from experience here: I've seen several people, including myself, warned about for "talking in-character on the forums".

Signing SCPs with a character name is fine. People around here get touchy about signing posts.
Ahem:
Yoric, shut up. Unimport is correct in this case. The actions of Heiden make it appears as if he is replying 'in character' which is highly frowned upon.
Bright will eat your soul.

Dude, there's nothing wrong with signing your creations on the page itself.
MrUnimportant is warning Heiden about posting "in character" in a discussion post.
That kind of thing gets frowned on. I don't know the details because it happened before I joined the site, but apparently, someone called Dr. Steel kept posting in-character in the forums and discussion threads, one thing led to another, and the guy ultimately got banned from the site after a massive storm of shit and flames. Ever since, there's been a strict no-kayfabe-in-the-forums policy.
Edit: Dang. Ninja'd again.
Ah, I misunderstood. My mistake, and my apologies, Unimport.
I didn't realize this - I've got some cleaning up to do with regards to 702 anyway, so I'll fix those posts and refrain from doing so in the future.
edit: and Bright, yeah - that was the cleaning up I noticed. I didn't see the bit barring SCP-148 for use in further experiments when I checked it, my fault. The experiment will be reworked shortly.
What were to happen if you tried to trade it something it'd given you already?
I haven't decided for sure yet, but my current idea is that SCP-702-001 only trades items that it has in quantities greater than one, and SCP-702-001 occasionally rejects items because it "has one already." Because of that, SCP-702-001 will reject any item of its offered in trade and demand a new item.
Interesting concept. I enjoyed everything but "fleshmeat". It diminished the entity's characterization in my opinion.
I like the term "fleshmeat". I think it gives the entity character.
What happens if you offer yourself as a gift?
Or offer more than one item?
What happens if you offer a gift that has been given to you by 702?
What are its standards for exchange? i.e. if I offer a copy of the Illiad, will I get back a comparable epic?
Offering yourself as a gift won't work because the creature must return something in exchange - to return something, the creature's got to have someone to return it -to-. Attempts to offer people fail as well, the creature doesn't recognize sapients owning sapients. It only takes inanimate objects, but it WILL take remains or parts of people. Offering more than one item depends on the nature of the item. A 'collection' type item, such as a deck of cards, will be recognized as a single item and taken as such. Multiple different objects will cause it to become annoyed and tell you to choose one, further offerings of the sort will cause the kind of mess that leads to [DATA EXPUNGED] bits. It recognizes artistic value, but it also recognizes commonality. A copy of the Iliad transcribed during one of Homer's tellings of the epic might net you some otherworldly epic never before seen. A copy of the Iliad you pick up at the bookstore for 8.99 will net you something worth roughly eight to ten dollars, which is NOT an epic you've never seen before.
I've just noticed that my third question was already asked. Sorry about that.
Next questions:
Put 702 in an empty room on a metal plate that will be heated when activated by remote control. Have some cameras set up, then, making sure there is no one in the room, and no one can enter the room, activate the plate heater. What happens?
Will 702 ever trade one major item for a number of minor items?
Is there something that is very common on our side that would be ultra-rare on 702's side? If such an item were offered, would it use our valuation (common) or its valuation (rare)?
Does 702 just like to collect things, or is it some sort of middleman?
1. Nothing happens, no sapient contact.
2. No, the entity only accepts single items. Collections/sets of items are the sole exception.
3. It uses our valuation, and there's nothing to say that 702 has a 'side'.
4. No one knows why it wants these items. If it wasn't taking totally mundane things as well as more exotic stuff, it'd be a bit sinister.
Hmm… seems like doing tests involving snacks from the haunted vending machine or outputs from 914 might be fruitful. Or maybe a glass of snail acid extracted by the drink dispenser.
I read it all, and the first thing that came to mind was "Genie!".
One question, though, what happens when you offer it an organic object? Like say, a potted plant, or a mouse, or A POUND OF HUMAN FLESH? Then when the next guy gives the genie something worth the plant/mouse/flesh, what happens when it poofs back into the corporeal realm outside the jar?
Calm down.
They'd get something of equal value. I'm guessing a pound of all-caps-because-ooh-I-am-giddy-with-myself human flesh isn't worth very much.
Then, when it poofs back into the corporeal world, the guy who traded for it looks down at it and goes "huh," and someone writes it down.
