Thanks to Sirslash, Siddartha Alone, Cassandra, Luke McDonut, Meserach and Afto for looking over this one for me.
Damn you had us there for a minute, making us thinking it was just a camera that let some alternate version of the Foundation look into our dimension, but then the last paragraph happens and we realise the camera actually looks into the flipping future.

Very good use of misdirection.
Damn, 50 in less than 24 hours is a new record for me! I wasn't sure if folks would take kindly to an scp-that-wasn't, but thanks everyone for your feedback!!
Damn, after like 4 days this is already my second highest rated article. Happy people seem to be enjoying this silly short form story!
Penguin people looking into the future and seeing early humans… I dig it.
Thanks friend, glad you enjoyed it!
technical nitpick, you probably wanna put it back before 2 million years
human ancestors were walking around then. dinosaurs were several hundred million years ago
also giga is usually billion
otherwise lovely
wait im an idiot, disregard
(its base 4)
Correct. In 6204 Sapiensaurus have eight digits, so I figured it made sense for them to have a base 8 numbering system
Thanks! Thought it made a nice little addition to the article :D
This is awesome. That was an excellent way of inverting the trope.

As others have said, this is really good! I upvoted it. Love how it pairs with 6204 to show this story from both sides!
As I said on the reddit thread about this, the camera is really cool but also really haunting. Imagine the Sapiensaurus (might have misspelled it here) realizing that their civilization, which had advanced tech and went to the moon and beyond, would collapse completely and the most advanced life forms in the future shown by the object are roaming around savannahs with spears…
And then the only trace of their society would be some polymers deep underground and artifacts on the moon that the Foundation discovers over 120 million years later, crazy to think about!
Thanks! Yeah it's interesting to ponder how the Dino!Foundation felt about this. Mammals back then tended to be pretty small. Fun fact: in the original plan this object was completely unrelated to Sapiensaurus. It was contained by the Foundation and discovered in the present day, showing OUR distant future. But I decided that was a little bland.
Also tossed around the idea of the camera showing Earth during a later stage (classical era, Middle Ages, modern day), but I think them just getting a glimpse of us during the Ice Age works well. Our distant past is their incredibly distant future.
My first article to reach 100. Thanks to everyone for reading!
