I do think that, for this one;
There will be time in the coming years to miss Earth. Time to reminisce and reflect on what we've left behind.
..that you could get rid of the second "Time", because that makes the second sentence sound declarative.
Other than that, though, I give Douglas's speech, & the whole story by proxy, a firm & well-deserved upvote.
And just when I thought 3law couldn't get any greater, you introduced fucking Dracula into the mix. With every single article this series gets, you only give me more arguments to sustain the opinion this is indeed one of the — if not the — best canons on-site. Stellar (heh) work.
For some stupid reason, I used to think I wouldn’t like third law very much. Probably because of all the thaumaturgy or something.
What the hell was I thinking?
what a great series so far, i really like the creativity in the worldbuilding, and the characters are all well written - among everything else, i love the little "Marie Antoinette" joke with the cake engine
is Laszlo Hungarian btw? because if yes, and if you'd like to include it, the Hungarian spelling and order of his name would be Sárkány László :) but i do know that emigrated/second+ generation Hungarians tend to deliberately lose the diacritics as to make spelling/typing easier

So, funny story, I just finished reading Fire of Unknown Origin, left my comment, flipped back to the contest page, and opened the next entry — and somehow my eyes glazed over and I missed this one, read the Anvil dossier instead, and was about to leave a comment saying that I was sad we didn't get any closure to the crew of the Joyeuse. Which, well, I guess this isn't really closure either, but it's something a little closer.
It's good, though. I like it a lot. It feels… personal, almost? I don't really know how to phrase this, but there's a certain je ne sais quoi to it that I really like. Not heartwarming… bittersweet? Optimistic? I'm not really sure, but I'm hoping that whatever this Unidentified Feelings Object is, it was intentional — because if so, you knocked it out of the park. The prose and imagery is excellent - I was constructing this spaceship in my head as the story went on, and it looks great. Also, motherfucking Dracula. Dracula! You love to see it. The last section, everyone cheering what they hate… it's inspired, it's bittersweet, it's optimistic. Now I'm really sad we don't get any more, but that's no reason not to love an excellently written tale.
