Community Outreach Team Recruitment Thread

Hello SCP community! Welcome to the Community Outreach Team recruitment thread! Our team is concerned with handling communication between staff and the on-site community, suggesting new ways to improve the site and boost creativity, and participating in specialties we call "subteams" with their own specific projects. The following are our current subteams which we will be recruiting for in this thread:

Site News

• Members of this team will work on producing the monthly Site News.
• There are a variety of tasks this team takes part in whether it be conducting interviews, gathering interesting info for people to see, gathering art for display, and so on.

Seminars

• Members of this team will work on reviewing, overseeing, and finding ideas/proposals/hosts for site seminars and future seminars.

Data Analysis Team

• Members of this team will work on conducting polls, gathering site and subcommunity feedback, and performing research and outreach to gauge the interests of the community.

After you have done this, your candidacy will be proposed to the leaders of CO, and you will be privately contacted. You will be informed if you have been accepted, but if you have been denied you may not receive communication. This thread will be checked frequently, so if you are not accepted, you will be considered in any future recruitment drives.

A list of teams you would be interested in joining: I'd be interested on joining Data Analysis and Introductions. I'd be pretty glad about helping new members to fly high on the wiki, as well as knowing what other members think about it.

Any other information that you feel would make you a worthy candidate for staff: I'm a current member of MAST's Navigation and O5 Updating teams. Although I don't really talk a lot sometimes, I spend most of my free time chatting with other wiki members, or posting SCP stuff in Twitter and media.

As I said before, I'm pretty keen about helping new members to achieve big things on the wiki. I am not the best writer, but I sure would give a hand to those newbies that need one.

Along with this, I'd join Data Analysis. Understanding the people's thoughts is important to keep going forward: If everybody knows what the people think, they know what they and we can improve. All for the better.

A list of teams I would be interested in joining: Introductions to help out newbies and be as accessible as possible to people unacquainted with the Wiki and how much it’s changing, and Site News, as I’m super engaged with the community and the stuff it generates, so writing about it would be something I’d love to do!

Any other information that I feel would make me a worthy candidate for staff: I’m in the AEDT Timezone, which covers a few weird times here and there. I’ve also got experiences serving as both a moderator and administration for several Discord servers.

Seminars would be my primary choice, considering it is something I have experience with and I have plenty of connections to pull into potentially hosting. Otherwise, Site News, as my place in the art community and outer community can help improve the news to a greater audience.

Introductions. I like answering questions and making sure people are set up for success. I've been interested in taking on some responsibility in the site for a while now, and I think this would be a good fit.

Any other information that you feel would make you a worthy candidate for staff.
I have a great deal of familiarity with the site, the current and past popular writing styles on the wiki, and am well versed on enough subjects to field most introductory questions. In my working life as a civil servant, part of my job is to take very complex ideas and explain them to lay people. I also deal problematic members of the public almost daily. These range from confused or frustrated people to out and out bad actors. I don't have the option to ignore them or to remove them from the conversation, so I've become very adept at defusing those situations.

Introcudtions: I would love to be able to help others because I quite enjoy it, but I would also really like to get to understand the wiki better and what better way to do so than by helping others.

Data Analysis: It's certainly an interesting task. I would prefer being a part of the introductions team, but this also seems like it could be quite a lot of fun.

I have been a Site-Admin of the SCP-NL wiki for almost a year now and I've been admin in quite a few discord servers. With this I mean to say that I'm capable of acting mature and making sure my team does aswel (apart from some needed jokes to keep the mood).

Currently, the easiest way to contact me is Wikidot PM. This will likely change back to Discord in the near future, but Wikidot will remain my primary source of contact until further notice or if I am ever unresponsive on other platforms.

Which teams I would like to join:

Why I think I'm a worthy candidate for these roles:

I consider myself a sociable person and thoroughly enjoy meeting new people. I pride myself on my leadership experience, writing and communication skills, friendly inflection, and ability to quickly adapt and build positive relationships with those around me. I'm also incredibly skilled at keeping personal and professional relationships separate, allowing me to remain candid and unbiased whenever necessary.

Aside from that, I've been heavily interested in the Foundation for as long as I can remember, indulging in fanmade works, falling asleep to Dr. Bob and Cimmerian, watching SCP Containment Breach, Markiplier, Borodante, etc., and I'm very passionate about creating a safe and positive environment for the community. I've absolutely loved watching it grow, and I'm overjoyed to see where it goes next.

+ Work Experience

Although I am currently unemployed offline, I've co-led the Social Justice branch at the Gender and Sexuality Alliance Network (GSA) in my school for almost two years now. My active responsibilities include the following:

• Communicating with school staff and administration about global injustice topics such as racism, antisemitism, homophobia, ableism, transphobia, and religious discrimination.
• Creating lengthy emails, essays, and presentations to share with staff, in small groups, and in large classroom settings.
• Building close relationships with staff, parents, and peers.
• Sharing passionate perspectives and striving for ways to provoke positive reinforcement within our district.
• Producing student-made lesson structures to inspire staff to self-educate and create professional, positive, and inclusive classroom spaces.

Although newer, I am also the founder of SONEM, a Mental Health Organization within my district. Online, I own and moderate several Discord servers hosting anywhere from 30-400 members, and I'm usually available from 8:00 AM-10:00 PM CST.

I’d like to join either the introductions team or the news team, as I want to help new members of the site so they feel confident while exploring the site while also keeping the front page fresh and entertaining so veteran site users have something to look out for during the month.

I’m very active on the site and I’m usually available from 8-12 CST. I’ve been an administrator and moderator for a few discord servers and I’m very good at navigating the site and knowing how to find a lot of things new members would have questions on. On top of that I worked in customer service for a while so I’m pretty good at dealing with people and also people who are being trolls and complicated.

The Easiest Way to Contact Me: Wikidot PM and IRC are both good but I check Wikidot much more. You can also contact me on Discord at BerryBun #9890 but I'm not as active there, I only check a few times a day but I check check more if accepted and needed.

A list of teams you would be interested in joining: Introductions. A few years ago when I was first active I did intro responses to newbie comments. In each comment I gave guides of what to check out for each type of intro, I'll show those below.

Any other information that you feel would make you a worthy candidate for staff: I know amino is the cesspool of the social media world but I was a curator of a few different very large communities (25k and 30k members) and I'm currently a curator and leader on some small ones. I only just started doing introduction replies again but I'm very active in the critique forums and I only just became a butterfly but I've been critiquing and writing on the wiki for about four years.

+ Open Introductions

First and foremost, check out the guide hub for anything you might need regarding site navigation, licensing, idea development, critique, site rules, anything. This has all the rules and resources you’ll ever need, so consider this a must read.

For more specifics on beginning to to write, we have several great resources. The ideas and critique forum is where you can first pitch an idea for your SCP, tale, or other. But before you post there, be sure to check out the how to use this forum thread. For how to better attract the attention of reviewers, check out the how to get more reviews thread. Here is where you’ll hopefully be able to acquire two greenlights, which you can read about here. Once you acquire two greenlights, you can move on to the drafts critique forum, which you can read the rules for here.

For more specifics on what to read, check out the new pages feed, top rated pages, and user curated lists. If you find an article you like and want to see what else that author has, check out the author pages page. 

Another good resource of finding recent things to read is checking out some of most recent news pages, which will list most articles that were published that month. I suggest checking out March 2020, April 2020, May 2020, and June 2020.
