Aghhhh, I'm so sad. I love history, and this piece started off really well, but slowly, and I do mean slowly, it began falling apart, ending up in a rather disappointing manner. I think the piece is a tad slow, and a lot of the second half of the first offset could be trimmed down. Also god, the McMahon really killed the flow there- Not a good way to complete that achievement. The daevite bits were a tad slow, especially with the language table: It felt like overkill for an already long piece. The Rome bit was interesting, and I think the piece would fair better if it ends on this part, because the second offset is such a bad punchline in my opinion. There is very little this part adds, and what it adds does the article a disservice: It basically comes out of nowhere, feels unneeded, and ends with the cheesiest, most flow-killing one-liner ever. I appreciate it in a vacuum, don't get me wrong, but here it really falls flat.
Overall, it's a downvote, but I don't think it'd be hard to rewrite it into something better: There is a lot of potential on the pieces laid here.
