The first image is an edited composite I created of several parts (all of which are CC).

The starfield background is from here, the woman (who I believe is Catiane Sousa) is from here, the starfish avatar is derived from this. All have been altered and combined with a screenshot I took of an archived YouTube video from 2017 to get that period-accurate UI, with all the text changed. See if you can spot every easter egg!

The Quincunx is derived from this.

A Minor Thing

I mean, yeah, the article content itself is beyond-par, very superb, but something about the wording of the descriptions both before & after Step 5 makes me wonder if the transcriber of the video was compromised by it.

A few examples, to show what I mean:

The man on the stretcher blinks, and his eyes are black from lid to lid.

Suddenly, he erupts into plasma, his skin glowing and mottled with sunspots.

the image in the porthole is drowned out by his fierce orange glow.

First, the spiral patterns that wind their way along the outer plates; then, as the camera grows even closer, it is seen that the plates are themselves composed of much smaller shapes, tied together like glittering blue scales.

As the smoke trail falls to the woman's feet she steps forward, walking into the background, past it, and joining the ship in the void.

She walks along the Quincunx, holding her hand to the hull, creating more smoke, a trail on which she walks.

As she walks, other figures walk on from out of frame, following her, stepping on her trail of smoke.

I don't know about anyone else, but something about these quotes, especially the bolded parts, make my instincts scream that the Foundation is not the only one writing this.

Could just be a me thing, though.

This is so good. I love that it does feel like an unfiction piece; reminds me of Wham City's Mirror series. You nail that cult-y vibe real well.

Hella. For the vast majority of this the creepy-cult Heaven's Gate vibes of this are completely on-point. The Fifthism references are strategically placed — you obviously get the clues if you're even remotely familiar with Fifthism, but they never become overpowering or self-evident. Fifthism excels with escalation, growing from the normal-if-odd to something entirely alien, and this escalates excellently too - the five steps offer a natural path for shit to get wilder and wilder. I will note that the very end, Step Five, did get a little tiresome — breaking it up a little bit more might be good. But that may just be me, and it's certainly not enough to detract from my enjoyment of the joint as a whole. Very cool.
