Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Department of Interstellar Containment. Its four-hundred-year mission: to secure strange new worlds. To contain new life and new civilizations. To boldly protect what no man has protected before!
well shit just got real very quickly
Very good. Great and quick intro that establishes the stakes extremely well. It's also very cool to see Jess return. I am, however, utterly devastated and disappointed by the fact the header does not say "Fifth Law."
Good shit.

This is really good.
I almost couldn't get past the beginning because of how well you captured the Silicon Valley smarm; I get enough of that from media.
That said, I'm excited to see where your team takes this. I love having more takes on magic in space (even if that's not the focus).
(I half-wondered if this was possibly connected to 4547, but, well, the timing is off. But hey, the more magic aliens there are, the merrier.)
I see you've taken my advice to heart, and I'm proud to say you pulled it off without flaw!
Kudos to you, & here's an upvote on Quintessence.
There was a bit of vertigo dropping into this, since I'm not totally familiar with the Third Law canon and it's been a minute since I read 1425. Despite the succinct introductions and strong tone, I still felt like I didn't really know anyone at this party.
Once it ramped up, though, I got hooked. The framing of the date works very well, and I'm excited to see where this sci-fi story goes. +1
Ohhh, love this. What a great way to start this series. I love the way you jump around concept, bringing up to speed the reader in this quasi-summary way that feels really immersive, becuase it has that sort of disorganization feel that you'd expect the main character here is also feeling. Also, just the concept itself is gold. Can't wait to see where this goes.
Easy upvote~
Impeccable pacing, stellar (ha!) character work in only a short time, and what a way to launch a new department. +1
Great premise, hilariously deranged villain, great dialogue, cool space department that doesn't require a worldwide evacuation. +1
