(Wikidot ate my post so I had to rewrite this from memory. Aaagh!)
Just want to preface this by noting that I read SCP-5525 directly beforehand. So my reading of this was probably as good as it could have been.
This is an excellent take on the Serpents' Hand format. The back-and-forths inside the footnotes did feel like genuine conversations — reminiscent of old forum replies — and something you might expect members of the group to engage in. Many Hand formats are unfortunately pretty lacking in this department, but here, it's clear you (both) understand the utility of that aspect and fulfill it well. The Observations & Stories section is where this really excelled, for me, in getting across delicious worldbuilding nuggets and giving insight into how New Atlantis came to be and how it exists now. On the whole this just has some solid, enjoyable characters. Their portrayals piqued my interest and made me want to learn more about them. Also the quips, I liked the quips.
Admittedly some aspects of the Atlantean-American relations go over my head; specifically, the parts that relate to the US. I know this is fiction, but also, I'm Canadian, so yeah. For as mundane as it is, and as weird as this sounds, I actually wished there were more insight into the John McCain wedding. It just seemed important, considering it's the impetus for the founding and legitimacy of New Atlantis. But it's only mentioned in one line.
All said, really enjoyable stuff. I am so happy L. Rowe is a lesbian.
EDIT: What were the three classes of Atlantean society?
