Why is the Foundation containing this?

Glowing mice have been a reality since 2002 (link), so it's not a matter of shattering the public's perceptions - heck, there are serious, real-world proposals to engineer glowing trees to line highways, crops and decorative plants that glow when they need to be watered, and novelty pets that glow just for the heck of it. Just being an invasive species isn't enough either - regular government and environmental groups exist that handle things like that.

You say that "SCP-621 has no direct psychological effects." If you want to give the Foundation a reason to contain these flowers, maybe you should consider changing that.

This is actually partly inspired by the glowing mice thing, but the reason the Foundation is containing this is because of its invasive nature. It says it scares of herbivores and reproduces at a higher rate than most plants.

Though, I guess it could be more menacing. Good thing I haven't announced it yet. I'll give it a few tweaks momentarily.

Kudzu is invasive and reproduces rapidly, and right now, this entry just says herbivores avoid the plants - there are plenty of natural ways for plants to repel things that would otherwise eat them (foul smells, bad taste, irritants, etc.).

If it's some kind of freaky repellent method that needs to be hidden from the public or if it exerts mind control or something, than I could understand the Foundation being involved. Otherwise, this is just a regular transgenic plant, and there are already federal agencies that handle that sort of thing, specifically the EPA, the FDA, and the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.

Changed it. Now it just glows naturally. Plus, made it more moth-to-a-flamish to humans.

It still says "SCP-621 has no unnatural psychological effects."

The Foundation is not the EPA. We contain things that are unnatural, not just things that are pests. Bioluminescence and being pretty, invasive, and hard on soil aren't unnatural.

As the article stands, this is still something that the EPA or APHIS should be handling, not the Foundation. Ramp up the danger to the point where the standard government agencies can't do their jobs or make it so it does have "unnatural psychological effects" and it'll be SCP-worthy.

Do they have "unnatural psychological effects" or not? That one line is still in there, clouding the issue …

For fun, I tried some Google-fu and discovered that bioluminescent orchids are a reality. They were created in Singapore in 2000 (see second paragraph here, more information here).

Or gas masks, for that matter, if it's something in the pollen that causes the effect?

Minor point: 100g of pollen is… a frightening quantity. For comparison purposes, 100g of saffron requires about 10,000 flowers, and saffron includes the entire stigma, not just the pollen. Do we seriously have well over 10,000 of these things around?

Not to mention that inhaling 100 g of pollen, as it's implied (people are "exposed" to that much) would very quickly clog up most of your respiratory tract. I'd reduce that number to something like 0.1 g.

I just got the email about the pollen thing.

In that case, 100 grams is a bit excessive. I'll change it to 5 grams as opposed to 0.1 grams, simply to show that this thing's rate of reproduction.

Another small point: Bees and birds don't cross-pollinate on purpose. It is simply an byproduct of their feeding on the plant. So they couldn't prefer to cross pollinate.

Normally, you're right — but then, people don't behave normally around these things either. Maybe it's hijacking pollinator behavior as well. That'd be consistent with its other supernaturally-invasive qualities.

I thought it would be a good idea to work something goofy into an eerie concept (technically, the whole article was a mix of goofy and eerie). It's just my style.

Was it wrong of me to assume that you had meant leyendeckers genitals when it came to the imbued luminescence bit? Probably. But now it begs the question. What if it did, and what if leyendecker turns into a stud because of it, begins producing kids left and right, and so this SCP crosses over to human genetics and viola, glowing babies take over the world. Just a radical thought. You know. While thinking about glowing genitals. I need sleep.

They're addenda to the Containment Procedures, not to the Description. It would make less sense for them to go after the Description, because they're not relevant to that.
