Dr. Wondertainment is a terrible father.

I haven't written anything for the site since July, and even though I swore I would have this up on Halloween, I'm still a few hours late. So it goes. Regardless, this is my addition to the Little Misters series. I hope you enjoy it! Many thanks to those who checked it out in chat, specifically TwistedGears for his insights.

As always, your comments, critiques, and criticisms are appreciated.

Interesting, this one.

The procedures and description are pretty thin, which makes sense given that they're basically an aperitif for the log. The shifting inescapable rust maze containment as a concept is a bit unremarkable, feeling like SCP-1864 without the effort or weirdness. I come down liking it, though, if only because I'm trying to wrap my head around what saltwater reservoir this thing could possibly be located in.

I don't quite buy the Factory/Wondertainment undernarrative. That is to say, you've mapped the Factory and Wondertainment onto a contagious anomaly and its containment, respectively. (The second being more Foundation territory, with parts of the description reading like smug approval.) The resulting narrative of this role switch-up is interesting, but (if I'm following correctly) the Wondertainment depicted here is a pretty huge stretch.

Also, creepy audio file didn't do it for me, but that's pretty standard for me.

Ultimately, though, +1 for D-13321. He was a real cool dude.

No vote. It's okay but it feels like it's all been done before. The Wondertainment-as-neglectful-father-to-the-Misters was already done with the Tales of Mr. Collector, Wondertainment-is-the-Factory is general purpose headcanon (although I don't recall its specific use in an article), and the ever-changing-maze-as-contaiment has been done before as well.

It's a fine job at recycling older concepts, but it never becomes more than the sum of its parts.

Also going with a neutral vote. The Wondertainment aspect seems kinda forced into an otherwise bland article, but its written very well, especially the investigation log, and the audio file was creepy as dicks

one minor nitpicky thing: why are the designated "-1" and "-A" instead of 1&2 or A&B

EDIT: also not a huge fan of cramming both Dr. W and The Factory into an article that needs neither

All of the Little Misters are Wondertainment products, so that's more or less required.

Can't explain off the factory bit, though. That's your prerogative.

Interesting skip, good enough for me to upvote, but a touch more tinkering here and there wouldn't hurt. That bit with the Factory link is really what does it for me, story wise. Never really thought too much about Dr Wondertainment/The Factory interactions… there's several possibilities that moment could indicate.

One thing that stuck out:

signs of iron oxide corruption on their exterior surface

I think you might want something more like "signs of corrosion similar to iron oxide"

"Signs of rust/rusting" works just as good, as it specifies iron oxide corrosion.

No non-iron or non-iron alloy metal rusts, but they do undergo similar processes. Copper doesn't rust, it oxidies. Same(ish) process as iron, but we don't call it that.

That's sort of the reason to get specific there, though: technically rust is only for iron, but its also occasionally used as a general term for oxidation of metals. Something that was made of copper or chrome wouldn't oxidize in the way that they normally do, however, and form a protective shell of patina- they would corrode in the same way that iron compounds do. One of those "if you don't specify what "blue" means, somebody's going to get killed because they wore a cyan shirt" things.

At first I considered neutral vote because the article wasn't very original, but the exploration log and the things SCP-#-A said made me upvote.
But at the end of the day the thing that I really like was D-13321. That guy was pretty cool.

That the Mister isn't the primary contained object makes this a real standout as Misters go. I will admit I was disappointed to see that "Mr. Smiles" was real at the end; the "is he Wondertainment or Factory" question kept me really interested throughout the logs.

Also, your first sentence would sound better as "SCP-2933-1 is a steel structure partially submerged within a large saltwater reservoir." Also, I'm not sure about the use of 'corruption', that seems awfully vague for a scientific document. Upvoted regardless.

I liked this.. The link between The Factory and DR.W really got me.

Quick nitpick: I noticed the Audio has the same collapsible name as the document (Document-2933-A) Dunno if that's a mistake or if I'm just not getting something.

Anyway, +1
