After a recent discussion amongst MAST staffers about the utility (or lack thereof) of having two guide hubs, it became clear that while the modern system was an improvement over the original, it has left room for further improvement.
Context
Currently, there are two pages that function as hubs for guides and essays on the wiki: the Guide Hub and the Comprehensive Guide Hub. The Guide Hub proper contains only official and up-to-date guides for the sake of brevity and ease-of-use while the Comprehensive Guide Hub contains links to all essays and guides. This was done to make the Guide Hub less overwhelming to new users who need to get through the required reading while staring at a gigantic page with hundreds of links, not all of which are up to date or even particularly useful. A more concise hub helped with this problem, but also introduced a fair bit of redundancy that makes posting new guides or archiving older ones harder, as now two pages must be kept in lock-step with each other instead of one page simply being updated.
The Solution
To combat this redundancy without reintroducing the old problem of "guide bloat", the MAST Guide Updating Team is proposing that the Guide Hub be trimmed down to only include the "Required Reading" section and be renamed to "Required Reading". This page will be linked as such on the sidebar and on the various pages that new users must traverse to join the wiki. Additionally, the "Comprehensive Guide Hub" will be renamed to "Guide Hub" and will essentially resume its previous position as the official guide hub.
This discussion will be active for one week, after which the described changes will be implemented unless serious concerns are raised. In the event of split opinions, a vote will be held to decide the outcome.
