Hi. My name is pooryoric, and I was once pretty well known in SCP circles. I've been gone for a long time; deleted the account, grew up a lot, went through a lot. Never really meant to come back beyondoccasionally popping my head in to say hi.
Thing is, recently it's come to my attention that there's a group out there using the name "AWCY?" to traffic in illegal firearms modifications. I'm not going to beat around the bush: I'm not fucking cool with that. The fact they're using the name means the people running that group are readers of the site, so I'm asking mann to post this in hopes it reaches them.
Look, when I first wrote the concept, the group "Are We Cool Yet?" was specifically intended as a parody of what I saw as a trend toward knee jerk edginess and pointless action movie violence on the site. They were a deliberate and cruel mockery of a particular type of writer we had a problem with at the time. They weren't meant to be liked. They were bad guys.
The name wasn't "are we cool" in the sense that they were going to become awesome. It was "are we cool yet? please, I'm sorry, stop hitting me. Are we cool? I'm sorry!" in the whiny tone of a bully whose victims have finally had enoughand begun to defend themselves.
"Are We Cool Yet?" was meant as a fucking joke, specifically at the expense of the kind of edgy douchebags who'd do things like make instagram accounts to trade gun parts and flex their beer guts about how rebellious they are. Unfortunately, any entity founded on irony will swiftly become home to morons not in on the joke who think they're in good company.
To the people using the fruit of my creative process to shill real world tools of violence: Grow up. Take my words off your shit. How fucking embarrassing.
To the SCP wiki community: Keep writing, guys. Thanks for all the spooks and laughs and for keeping this website going. It's amazing to me to see the wiki still going so strong. It's even more amazing to see a community who care about each other and stand up for each other nd don't tolerate the wild west douchebaggery we were all so guilty of in the bad old days. You guys rock.
