It's indeed a salamander.

+1

I wouldn't mind seeing a little more in relation to this "Eda", but I found the salamander pretty good. He has a really great fear inducing power. Something that can destroy basically whatever it wants and also has a sort of infantile understanding of reality. A thing is either something it wants or doesn't and that's it.

I didn't really fully grasp the nature of the transcripts not "feeling right" to people after the fact, and that probably has to do with Eda and their antimemetic nature.

RoninTortoise 04 Aug 2021 16:56

Thanks for the +1 :)

This article went through a few iterations and some of them had Eda play a bigger role, but ultimately I didn't want to take away from the salamander. I figured hints and pieces would work better and give the readers something to think about without takin' away from the lil lad.

Yeah the unease is related to Eda and her antimemetic shenanigans.

Forgot to make my post yesterday.

You probably remember the initial iterations of this, and how different they were. I'm glad to see that you finally managed to tie all of this up into one neat little package. I hope this does well. You do have a decent amount of upvotes on this article right now. Congratulations!

Like I said when you were writing this; That is a greedy salamander.

Thanks! :D

Yeah, the initial versions were wayyy different but I'm glad I stuck with it and made more drafts of it

I kinda gathered Eda was somewhat antiemetic after the first log, and I thought that they could use that property against her after the Investigation. Just write a bunch of things about this Eda and who they could possibly be or what they want, where they are or where they're from, all that jazz. You'd be able to narrow it down based on that effect

RoninTortoise 16 Aug 2021 21:31

Information about Eda inscribed anywhere is potentially altered too, plus memories are affected. It'd be really challenging. Plus, people don't really know all the details of how it works. For all we know, the information that the researchers felt was wrong could actually be true.

Short and sweet, with a fascinating sense of unease easily felt throughout. Definitely +1

Two things stood out for me in particular

First, I'm kinda surprised that a random anomalous salamander understood the cartography, address structure, and where it is currently located well enough to target a nearly-random house.

Second, I'm more surprised Dr. Sal gave 6332 his actual address. Kinda asked for something to happen.

RoninTortoise 16 Aug 2021 21:28

Thanks for the +1!

+ thoughts

As for the salamander, you raise some good points. What I would say is that it understanding how addresses work is part of its anomalous intelligence. Plus, nobody knows what Eda could've instilled in the lad (other than the ability to talk and understand language).

In my opinion, since this Salamander is so dangerous, Dr. Sal didn't want to play games or try anything funny. What if the salamander knew he was lying? What if it has other traits that they don't know about? There are so many potential unknowns y'know?

Fellow Ronin, here. You've done well for a first contribution. I enjoyed reading this one, and now "no thanks!" has entered my vernacular.

RoninTortoise 19 Aug 2021 08:44

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!

This is an interesting piece. It mixes the salademander (Who I must admit took me way too long to figure out the pun here.) and the idea of this antimemetic entity really well. I like the comments of uncomfortableness that make one question what's going on here, and the last part is very good at making one wonder what's happening here without making it too vague or fail in its delivery.

As for the mander itself, it's a very interesting creature! I like its childish behavior, making it more dangerous because of this, like with the address thing (Which was fairly messed up, I gotta say.)

Overall, it's a really nice SCP! +1

RoninTortoise 22 Sep 2021 15:15

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

The address/house exploding was actually one of the main ideas that stuck since the first outline and rough draft! I wanted somethin' horrible like that for the saldemander to do >:).
