For some stupid reason, I only read 4001 recently. And of course as a huge history nerd I loved it and immediately felt compelled to write a Tale about it, dipping into one of my favorite canons while doing so.
A theme of Alexandria Burning is the cyclical nature of history, and I wanted to revisit that theme here. Even the Library has its limits, though. One burning is all it was willing to bear.
This is the longest tale I’ve ever written, but I really enjoyed doing so. Starting with SCP-6065 I’ve tried to focus on the refining and second draft stage of my writing process more intensely, and I think I did a good job with telling a complete story in that regard here.
[Note: A few lines are lifted from 4001 verbatim towards the end of the story, such as “She is the most important thing in the world.” and “[x] years since [we] have seen the sun.” This is intentional reference, not plagiarism.]
