Hello everyone, and Veralta's here to present a short and sweet entry (well, more or less 1.5k words) for Memecon! It is a piece about doodles, a boy, and the rubble-filled aftermath of WW2 in a realistic, 'slice-of-life' manner.
The meme is 'Kilroy is Here', which is arguably one of the oldest yet still 'modern' memes. It was a common copypasta in the European and Pacific theaters during WW2, primarily due to how easy it is to create (bald-faced man + nose + wall = success) and how recognizable it is. As a meme, its intended meaning is to usually welcome new soldiers to a place that is already liberated by the Allies. It can also be taken as a friendly challenge for said soldiers to catch up.
Like most memes today, 'Kilroy was Here' is actually derivative, as its precursor is the "Foo Was Here" meme that sprouted in Australia during WW2, and 'Chad', a UK-based doodle that first appeared in 1938.
Meanwhile, it has given birth to more derivatives, such as ASCII art, line art versions, and the interpretation of this article.
In any case, 'Kilroy was here' was, and is still here ^^ I hope you enjoyed this article!
Special thanks to my critters for helping me with the concept, SPAG errors, sentence phrasing, and fixing the clinical tone of this document! They are benddy,

I would not have been able to write and polish this to an extent that I, and hopefully my readers, would be happy with without your help!
