Another 1000 come and gone

ItsDenali 28 May 2021 01:03

I can hardly believe 6Kon is already here, but I’m thankful nonetheless for the motivation it gave me to start chipping away at my sandbox backlog again, especially with such a versatile topic as nature. Here’s to a great new Series VII!

Thanks to *user Veralta and Ralliston for their invaluable critique and nitpicks!

Preferred spots:

❖ 6100
❖ 6300
❖ 6333
❖ 6500
❖ 6900

If none of those are available then the closest spot to 6000 that’s still open works fine.

The similarities between Ralliston and I’s articles have been noted, and he has stated that he doesn’t mind. Great minds simply do think alike, it seems. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ending was a bit too abrupt for my taste.

Agreed

I quite like this. It ironically kind of reminds me of 5000, with its vague reference to something so horrible that complete extermination of humanity and any supernatural remnant is preferable. I don't know if that was intentional, but it's cool.

Beautiful green

I really liked this article. It has this odd antithetic feeling to When Day Breaks, for example, in which the world is ravaged and destroyed by nature, or that which is supposed to be nature, but this is oddly… Comforting? Now, don't get me wrong, there's an inherent disconcerting feeling in this green end of the world, but it also plays really well into its infohazardous nature: It's a beautiful apocalypse. And maybe, just maybe, it is for the better.

Definitely a good article. Upvoted~

Huh, nice. I feel like this may be a bit of a leap, but considering that conversation… is it possible that this SCP was released in response to 2718? Because I could definitely see this being preferable to 2718 lol

But anyways, I enjoyed this! Keep up the good work!

I think it may be indeed be connected to 2718 as it mentions something about “what comes next” and how something would still be left behind such as a soul which would then be tormented.

My headcanon for this:

+ spoiler

After finding out what 2718 was and what they thought would happen after death, the O5s given themselves amnestics as told in the SCP itself in 2019. However, it did not completely work against this cognitohazard and there is still a lingering feeling among them that something horrible naturally awaits us after death. Thus, after discussion amongst the O5s, one proposes the “ritual” - 6014 - as the solution, believing it’s best if humanity is wiped and converted back to nature without the process of death. They unleash the ritual in China in 2023, and we know what happens after.

Oh, to gracefully accept rapture before turning into a tree.

I like the dual narrative here, the "what happened to the Overseers?" mystery alongside an end-of-the-world tale just as good as any from the apocalypse contest. :) +1
