SCP-6140 - The True Empire

This article is a co-author with aismallard, who came up with the original idea and suggested it to me after I reached out to her with the general idea of working together on 6k. Working on this article was a lot of fun, and I'm glad we had the opportunity to do this together.

For a long time I've enjoyed the concept of the Daevites, but I didn't quite know what to write about them. I'm glad I was able to team up with stormbreath for 6k to write about their true nature!

I saw this in the draft phase, and man did it completely pull the rug out from under my expectations. I was expecting a big confrontational war between the Foundation and the Daevite empire, and instead of that, you gave us an incredibly clever "Authorial Bias can literally distort reality" which is a multi-layered commentary on how Western non-fiction histories have a tendency to erase, reduce, or wash away the complexities of entire civilizations and cultures.

I almost jumped the gun in disliking it as I was reading it because it was such a jarring rug pull, but man was it well executed, and the more I thought about, the more I realized this is damn good. Kudos and hearty +1.

Truth be told, I was getting ready for a long read with incident logs and interviews with Daevite POWs in the midst of a Foundation-Daevite slugfest. I certainly did not expect what came next.

Between the "holy fuck our perception of the Daevite Empire is a meme from an English fanboy" and the reflection on cultural stereotypes, this piece has secured itself in my top few 6k entries.

This was an amazing read. The way you built up to the twist was very well writen. It was a fairly short 6kon article considering some of the others but I think that just strengthened the story and concept.

This weirdly hits the core with me. As a Mongolian, we are seen as barbaric and cruel, but we have our culture and laws that has influenced the modern cultures around the world and yet the world still sees us as some barbaric people. And it’s still sucks because no one talks about it and it further perpetuate the stereotype. Sometimes the bad is stretched until the good isn’t existent.

This does remind of 4290 and 5659 by being a subversion of expactations of an apocalypse but the themes and lore connection does make it stand on it's own.

This is really nice: the build-up, the tension, how it plays out, and the payoff of the whole thing. It's an excellent fresh take and incredibly enjoyable to read!
