This is the Town Halls thread for May 22 through June 5th, 2021, regarding offsite happenings. Anything that takes place on any official SCP Wiki platforms offsite are relevant to this thread. The staff teams responsible for topics that are relevant to this thread are Internet Outreach and Licensing.

1. The Internet Outreach team helps people on Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitch connect with the SCP Wiki by answering questions, helping people make wiki accounts and prepare their content for publishing, bringing attention to quality SCP content such as featured articles from the wiki and fan art from satellite communities, and disseminating major site news such as contest announcements. This team is in charge of maintaining social media accounts or groups that are officially affiliated with the SCP Wiki.
2. SCP’s Licensing Team is responsible for ensuring that on-wiki content is compatible with Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0 and that third party SCP derivative works properly follow the terms of Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0.

This thread is open for 2 weeks and is a place where you can post comments, criticisms, suggestions, complaints, and questions for the relevant topics and teams. If your post is not on the correct forum for the topic or team, you will be notified via a reply by a staff member.

Liaisons are a method of anonymous communication between the userbase and the town halls forum posts. Liaisons were chosen based on community feedback and overall demographic representation.

To contact a liaison, use one of the methods listed below. Liaisons can be sent anything you would like posted to the town halls anonymously, regardless of severity. Please inform the liaisons you intend this to be an anonymous post to the threads (and which thread) so they know where to post. Please assume your message will be posted unless you explicitly ask otherwise.

I feel like the way we reach out to the community needs to be reworked. The current team works incredibly hard and deserves respect but the way it’s handled I feel could be improved. Wen I was offsite the occasional Reddit post about a poll rarely caught my attention and I like many others did not look outside series 1 however I started to talk to people authors and made friends. I think if we personalize the outreach team a bit more and worked on having conversations with users it might help bridge the gap between on and offsite. I’m not saying just talking to people is enough. But going out of are way staff and authors and community members alike to talk to people a bit more I think can make the difference. Perhaps doing things like opening chats on Reddit and other platforms to chat with staff or ask questions or make conversation could help and reaching out wen u see members on other platforms interested in the community.

The community disconnect is definitely a perennial problem, but it’s not an easy one to solve unfortunately. There are around 700,000 followers or subscribers on our collective social media accounts, but only around a dozen IO volunteers, almost none of whom are exclusively IO either.

We have taken steps over the years to ameliorate this problem, such as the very successful text only Thursday’s on Reddit, but to a large extent this is simply a problem of large numbers: a small team of volunteers can’t do much 1-1 personal outreach to the population of a large city.

That is not to say we don’t try: we answer questions, hold AMAs with authors, and do our best to give personalized responses and outreach as much as possible. Much of that however is not as visible due to the content algorithms on Reddit, Twitter, etc not tending to show that kind of content on people’s main timelines.

Just to clarify this was more to help members who seemed interested in interacting with the on site community. I totally understand how impossible it is to expect 1:1 interactions with staff and over 700k users.

As feedback for the text only Thursdays I dont think it really helps. Wen I was on Reddit this seemed more like the meme day and just an extension of dank memes from site 19.

Are there any updates with regards to usage of the funds raised for the -RU wiki? Any details staff involved can give? Apologies if there's been news on the RU side - I can't read Russian.

We'll have some more news soon, we're just getting everything cleared by the lawyers and our counterparts in the Russian Branch (who have been shouldering the lion's share of the actual work on this). Things are still moving, but legal matters are by their nature slow. But as soon as we're able, we'll give everyone a big update.

EDIT: If you haven't seen, the latest updates go up on our GoFundMe Campaign. The last one was from the end of March, concerning Duksin's publisher. As I said, we've got some more news in the near future.

I've seen the GFM updates. Good to hear things are moving along on that front, and I'm glad the Russian Branch has been working through this. Was also wondering about the usage of the funds, but I'd guess that that would also require legal clearance alongside international barriers.
All in all, happy the publishing has stopped.

Just wanted to let staff know I'm working on an archive of SCPs and Tales that were deleted by their authors. Per the CC-BY-SA license, all original author usernames are cited in the title of every page.

Anyone is free to use this site for crosslinks/rewrite material as they see fit, just remember to cite the original author.

This seems, at least to me, like a terrible idea. People have their reasons to delete their works from this site, and I think we should respect this. If people are that interested in rewrites for deleted articles, sure, but publicly hosting what an author's taken down seems rude, at least to me.

This site is built around Creative Commons. Freely distributing work is the whole point of that license. Everyone who has ever published work on this site did so under a license that allows anyone to host their work whenever they wish, even if they take it down. CC-BY-SA is permanent and irrevocable.

Hey - a couple of things here. While this is 100% allowed by the license, current site policy does not allow for rewriting self-deleted articles without the original author's permission (https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/rewrite-guide). Because of that, straight rewrites posted to the site of these articles and tales would be subject to be summary deletion based on our policy. Additionally, at present, the Tech team does not allow crosslinks to outside sites.

While you're welcome to continue with this project, I would ask that you include the Rewrite Guide on your page so people can reference it and not be caught blindsided by site policy.

I would like to formally request a review of these policies, if such requests are still allowed in the thread :)

EDIT: "Crosslinks" as in non-mainsite SCPs, or any outside links whatsoever? Because several mainlist articles link to other websites (SCP-3166, SCP-3999)
