Calvin Bold did not start out as a character who was meant to be prominent. His very first appearance was in SCP-4456-D, and his main purpose was almost as attribution, simply to be my presence in something I was proud of. As time went on, I jokingly talked about how I wanted to develop him; his odd appearance, dedication to discovering Minecraft 2, and immortality were all just silly ideas I'd come up with, among other things. But eventually, I really started to bond with him as a character. I wanted him to be something legitimate. So I started growing him. Alongside the Decommissioning Department, he went from a one-off to a fully-fledged concept, and eventually became accepted at large.
The purpose of this tale series is not only to establish him as a character, but also to develop him. Calvin is someone whose strengths, flaws, and quirks I've become more and more attached to, as well as someone who I've put a great deal of myself into. A lot of his personality is meant to emulate me, especially his flaws. Of course, I'm still working to include those silly ideas from the past, and all the wacky plans I'd devised. But I'm very proud to say that Cal has grown beyond that, and even beyond me! Nothing makes me happier than to see that other people have written about him and given their own perspectives on him.
I'm excited to continue Cal's story, and I have tons of plans for him. And I hope you enjoy the journey he takes as well.
Also, a huge, huge thanks to my dad, not only for the spectacular artwork of Cal, but also for being such a huge inspiration and encouragement for me to continue writing. Neither myself nor Cal would be here without him.
Smells like success.
