There is a new category of pages on the wiki: more-by.
Some authors like to put a list of their other works on their pages, usually either in the Info module (or Info Bar by Ayers) or in a collapsible at the bottom of the page, to prompt readers into looking into their other works. These authers often created dedicated pages for these lists on sandboxes, so that they could use [[include]] to add these lists to their pages with a single line. They could then edit that page and see the changes immediately reflected on all pages that use it.
However, after wiki staff passed the recent Technical Content Policy, pages on sandboxes were no longer allowed to be used on SCP wiki pages using [[include]] - they had to be hosted on the wiki itself. This was frustrating to authors who still wanted to be able to freely create these pages - you can read the detailed reasoning in the 05command thread.
In response to that, we have created the more-by category that is dedicated to pages listing an author's works, which we call 'more by' pages. This allows authors to create a component page for their works that is still compliant with the policy.
The more-by category has voting disabled, and only the page creator (and site moderators) can edit them.
Creating a 'more by' page
The requirements for creating a 'more by' page are the same as those for creating an author page. At the time of writing this means you must have at least 3 successful pages on the wiki.
Authors who would like to create a page for listing their works may do the following:
- Create a new page in the more-by category.
- The page's slug (the part that comes after the / in the URL) must be the category (more-by:) followed by your username as it appears in the URL your Wikidot user info page. For example, mine would be more-by:croquembouche.
- You can find your Wikidot user info page by clicking on your profile picture, then the 'Profile Page' link in the bottom left of the popup. For example, here's mine.
- The page title should be something like "More By Croquembouche" (obviously with your username instead of mine).
- The page's slug (the part that comes after the / in the URL) must be the category (more-by:) followed by your username as it appears in the URL your Wikidot user info page. For example, mine would be more-by:croquembouche.
- The page must be tagged 'more-by'.
- The page must be parented to your author page, if you have one.
Here's an example 'more by' page I made: More By Croquembouche
You may not create a 'more by' page on behalf of another user.
Each user may only have one 'more by' page.
Please be aware that if you ever change your username, you must update the URL of your 'more by' page, and you are responsible for updating all pages that use it to the new URL.
What to put in your 'more by' page
A 'more by' page is intended to be a list of other articles of yours that your readers might be interested in.
You may wish to add other things, for example links to articles not written by you that you enjoy. You could even add something like the Wikimodule Component by Rounderhouse and use your 'more by' page to customise its CSS styling. It's up to you.
If you want to add a section that is different for each page - for example "more works featuring this character" - it is probably easiest to do that on each page individually rather than your 'more by' page.
How to use a 'more by' page
To put your 'more by' page on another page of yours, add the following wherever you'd like it to be (for example inside the Info module):
[[include more-by:username]]
…replacing "username" with your username as it is in the URL of your Wikidot user info page.
If you have co-authored a page with somebody, you may want to include both of your 'more by' pages! It is a good idea to make sure your 'more by' page does not include any universal CSS changes that a co-author might object to.
Please see the amended Technical Content Policy for the rules on what a 'more by' page can and can't do.
If you have any questions, post them in this thread!
