Day-1 Jam Status: Done!

I didn't think I'd be writing a tale related to Spyhopping quite so soon, but then the first theme of JamCon was "Marine," and here we are (sixteen hours later).

The image at the top is an etching done by an unknown artist around 1629. It's in the public domain and you can see the whole thing here!

Loved Spyhopping and this piece really serves as a brilliant jumping off point for any reader.

I really enjoyed the haunting descriptions of the whalefall; just some really good stuff all around.

Thank you! I'm glad to hear you've enjoyed them. I was somewhat unsure if this would stand alone for the con or if it would be too tied into Spyhopping.

This is a good article with some great imagery. Loved this part:

That's what I saw there: impossible ivory towers, curving and rising out of the sea. I don't know how big they were, there was no frame of reference, but I could glimpse them through the fog, reflecting the moonlight. There must have been hundreds. I felt like one of those small, dark things, crawling along the seafloor to nibble away at the remains of something larger than I could comprehend.

Really makes you feel the awe and majesty of seeing something so much larger than yourself.

The imagery right at the end is really good, yeah. It has this tinge of Lovecraft's Dagon that I really, really like. The way Lykar uses the whalefall to explain what they encountered is just so interesting.
