This is an old, old, old, old, OLD draft from 2018 that I recently revisited and necromanced into this article!

It's an attempt to merge a couple of genres: action, horror, comedy. The ideas here aren't that tricky to decipher: not everything has to be grimdark, sometimes the MTF survives, sometimes the bad guys don't win!

The beginning feels like a bunch of overplayed "reclusive author goes a little mad and holy shit what happened to their estate" tropes… and given the nature of the work, I'm assuming that's the intention. To its credit, the piece actually ties that together by the end, rather than just assuring the reader "don't worry this was all intentional!!". The ending also made me smile.

Still, I felt like the first iteration dragged, especially wrt the recovered instances. Then we had the house log, and none of the scary stuff felt coalesced or unique enough to really put me on edge.

I recognize this piece is about overplayed shock shlock, but that doesn't mean you can't get a little unique with the OOU schlock, no matter how deliberate.

I really appreciate this feedback - these are good points that I can take on board for future writing. And, as I said in chat, I’ll take a smile over a +1 any day!

I quite like this. Hoping the Foundation doesn't overdo the counter-writing and wind up opening a rift to some dimension of nicety and familial kindness (although maybe that wouldn't be too bad).

I enjoyed this a bunch. It had some tropey bits, but they were all well executed, and the idea of writing happy stories to counter evil ones is pretty neat.

Wholesome. The ending makes me really happy. The Foundation stopped and evil with the power of wholesomenes. Love some human Foundation moments from time to time.

I adore this. I think it's fantastic. I think the novel descriptions are excellent literary deconstructions of a common theme, I think the MTF log sparkles, and I don't think the complete package feels half its length. This is a banger.

It's also disturbing as heck, and I don't generally get disturbed on the wiki. Something about those books and the fates of their authors got me good.

This had to have had one of the most satisfying endings to a skip I’ve read in a while. Thoroughly enjoyed the action horror comedy trifecta - echoing Harry, the first act genuinely creeped me out and I was completely engrossed in the story by the time I got to the log. +1

I really enjoyed this, love when an MTF team has such a diverse array of specialties and personalities, its really fun. And the ending twist was handled well.

The fact that my crit pretty much summed up to "I love this" should say enough about this.

The conprocs and initial descriptions are clear, concise, and interesting; the descriptions of the novels are evocative and haunting; the action log stays punchy while still exploring how a team like this would operate; and the ending had me grinning throughout. I couldn't give a more enthusiastic +1!
