Edit: As of August 2022, the Rewrite Request Thread has been retired and locked. Please message a member of the Rewrite Team to request a rewrite.
This thread will be the new place to request rewrites for low rated pages under staff purview, as well as for all rewrites pertaining to the recent incident we're all aware of. While that was the catalyst of this thread's creation, it will be for all rewrite requests going forward, not just requests related to that particular author.
Article's eligible for rewrite request are as follows:
- Must be under staff purview, i.e. the author has been inactive for one or more years and has not designated an executor or made a declaration that they want no pages rewritten. Must also be low rated, approximately -10 to +20.
- Can instead be articles whose author explicitly allowed rewrites for regardless of rating, which is not generally common but is currently relevant.
Except in the second case, you must message the original author seeking permission regardless of activity status. Should they respond in the negative no rewrite will occur, but should they fail to respond a rewrite can proceed.
When making a request, please provide the following information:
1. The article you wish to rewrite
2. Articles you have written that are directly or indirectly related to that article (e.g. tales based on an SCP or vice versa, an article with the same GOI or character as the article you wish to rewrite, or even just an article with a similar tone/theme to pieces you've written). Note that having written these articles is not necessarily a requirement (especially in cases where the pieces is mostly standalone) but merely a positive point in favor of why you should be the one to rewrite it.
3. Any initial ideas you have about how you would change the piece to improve it. This does not have to be exhaustive or final.
After the request is made, it will not be approved for 48 hours (time subject to change) during which time others may also request to rewrite the same piece. Rewrite Team will assign the rewrite attempt based on an author's related works, ideas for the rewrite, and number of previous rewrites (with a bias towards authors who have rewritten articles less commonly). Multiple individuals requesting the same article may also choose to collaborate.
Only one rewrite attempt per person at a time, including collaborations. Once approved, you will have one month (time subject to change) to submit an initial draft to rewrite team, who will either approve the draft or suggest changes. Once a draft is approved, the original slot will be cleared, the new version posted, and the metadata updated to reflect previous and current authorship.
Before you request a rewrite, please look through the thread. If another person has posted requesting the article that you have your eye on, please respond to theirs instead of making a new post. Duplicate posts will be disregarded.
This will be a challenge for the traditionally small rewrite team, so I humbly request that you all be patient with us during this time. We will also endeavor to assign attempts fairly, and if anyone feels that we are not doing so you may send a complaint directly to me or to another administrator.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, compatibility with existing articles that relate to these works is top priority, so please keep that in mind when writing. The backlinks function is an easy way to find these articles.
