You already know my thoughts on this but I just want to say this has genuinely gotten me giddy for the first time in a long time.
Placeholder, the character, has an enthusiasm clearly felt by Placeholder, the author, which somehow infects me, the reader, as I read. That's some good shit right there. Add in some real great lines and terms, and some very digestible and entertaining hints of what's yet to come, and you've got a basically ideal series opener.
Goddamn, I'm excited for what comes next. Although I'm not too familiar with the AIAD series, the character on display from all involved parties, as well as the little lore tidbits I appreciate, gives the story an electrifying voltage that makes me want more.
+1
Meta meta meta. Is it my thing? No. Did you do it well? Yes, yes you did. I really wonder what it is with this site and meta. That’s not a judgment by the way, that’s a genuine curiosity. We have a higher concentration of meta-interested authors here than anywhere else, and I say that with confidence. It’s an odd phenomenon and it’s source intrigues me.
Much like this whitehole intrigues Placeholder. The name jokes were fun, the dialogue was rather fun, he is very Doc Brown, and it takes itself just the right amount of seriously. I liked the included images as well. Stylish!
Well this is great. Riveting “action” moving the plot forward while taking time to build so excellent characterization, humorous but believable dialogue, and you’ve got a grounded view of the bureaucracy the runs the Foundation.
Not a pataphysics guy whatsoever, and yet I enjoyed every bit of this.
The fact you said I (along with HarryBlank and ihp does not match any existing user name) was part of the inspiration for this is flattering as hell.
I fully expect to be notified when the next part goes up, excellent stuff, my friend.
Awesome stuff. Even if I don't entirely understand the mechanics of what's happening, I was thoroughly entertained and enjoyed the ride. Please, try to keep the length in future tales! The presentation was great, and felt like an episode of a TV show. I like how Placeholder isn't a sarcastic asshole, despite being a literal know-it-all. Hopefully this series explores his character in-depth, and really dives deep into how his brain works, his flaws, and how he perceives himself. You've managed to strike a balance between entertainment value and dense pataphysics.
Please, please let me know when you have a draft ready for the next installment.
Damn, twas a good read. Kept me engaged throughout, and Placeholder's enthusiasm is infectious.
A plothole for the body, a plot device for the mind, and a Mnemosyne for the heart :]
It's a slow start, but an intriguing one. Not much actually happens and there's a lot of confusing technobabble, but Dr. McDoctorate is likeable enough to keep the story afloat.
Also, damn, I fear for our future if kids these days don't appreciate pataphysics. Must be narrative influence. Or rock and roll.
One of the few times I actually understood pataphysics in a tale.
I could upvote for that alone, but I'd also like to mention the great pacing, dialogue, and characterization! If I'd have one complaint it's that the connection to Mnemosyne felt just a touch out of place, which might be off-putting to those who hadn't already read that story arc.
Good job! :D
