this was made as part of scpd's draft swap, in which i got Nykacolaquantum's draft trying to give some background lore to parawatch. i built up on it as best i could, and i hope you all enjoy it.

this draws heavy inspiration from the history of the universe essays and takes some stuff out of the site rules as well. i like to imagine parawatch deals with just as much shit from wikidot as we do. i dunno.

This was written as part of the SCP Declassified 2021 Draft Swap. I couldn't have asked for a better person to realize my Parawatch draft than Nico!

This is excellent, I didn't think a background history for Parawatch would be feasible, but this remains interesting throughout. It really does feel like an actual, real-world internet community intro post. Some of the references sprinkled in (like TWE) are nice too. Hopefully this acts as a good baseline for future Parawatch entries.

Hm. While parts of this were admittedly entertaining, a lot of it seemed to just be a retelling of real-life happenings in the SCP Wiki (consuelo, editthis, Project Foundation, etc.). As a characterization of Parawatch, this really didn't work for me — there's more that can be done with it that isn't just "the SCP Wiki but it's in the anomalous world." Rook's backstory was really strong, in my opinion, but the sly references and gags sort of took away from that.
Also — the section about MrBeeks' suicide hit uncomfortably close to home, as a reminder of the terrible things assholes on the real-life internet have done — but its impact is glossed over, as that part seems to only be an aside or anecdote at best, nestled within the rest of the piece's more light-hearted and somewhat comedic tone.

This was almost a bit too 'meta' for me, but the backstory and reasons for changing sites were both great and lead to my upvote.

bones, wtf are you doing managing Parawatch? I can't imagine you don't have better things to do with your time.

EDIT: No-voted. Feels like the fourth-wall leaning is relied on a bit too much.

This struggles as a "history of Parawatch" story because of how much of that history just pulls from the history of the actual SCP wiki. It feels less like History of the Site and more like a collection of links and winks to site users and Deep Site Lore.

This is a valid criticism. If it's any solace, my intention when the original draft was started was for this to be a history of Parawatch, not the history. The wiki doesn't have to be a parallel of ours in anyone else's headcanon; that's simply what this evolved into.

I think there's a really strong opportunity to rewrite the piece from the perspective of "Parawatch is an alt-history SCP" — not just reusing bits of our site's history in Parawatch, but extrapolating from the idea that there's a wiki with all the trials and tribulations that an online community invites except with actual hidden stakes.

My problems are the same as ARD's. It felt like re-hash of the wiki's history with few a new parawatch connections.

No Vote. It feels a bit too meta for my liking, and it could have done to be a bit less of a a fictionalised version of the real wiki's history. That having been said I did like the spicy crust pizza sponsorship.
