Ok, this one is a doozy for me!

First time I'm publishing without the feeling of "my critters basically wrote this for me". Not so sure if that's good or bad, but time will tell.¹

As always, I'd like to give my thanks to my critters:

Upvoted. This is pretty likable, and I enjoyed reading it.

Pretty sure this should be "save for a set of theoretical countermeasures in the possession of the O5-Council" — the current wording makes it sound like the set of theoretical countermeasures is possessing the O5 Council instead.

With it, we could avert any catastrophe, contain any anomaly, keep anyone safe.the

Looks like there's a line missing there.

Also, minor point, but the way I was taught is to follow the Chicago Manual of Style, which recommends having the footnote number after a comma or period, and not before; a quick Google indicates that at least a few other style guides follow similar lines.

I'm glad to see that the O5 members feel accountable when the Foundation wants to press the multiversal reset button (figuratively speaking). Upvoted for such a well-thought-out paradox (an ordinary scientific constant is a skip?)…but not seeing the attached documentation disappointed me a little!

Thanks for your thoughts. I really did want to include the procedure,¹ but it felt like a distraction from the main focus of the article.

I guess it's all up to your headcannon now!

I too am extremely curious. The finer details of the anomaly itself are vague, so the logs could add interesting details and clarity.

It turns out that draft was my very first draft. Unfortunately, that means it's an old notepad file which has since been deleted xD.

I remember most of the details though and might think about writing a companion piece in future if I feel like it. For now I'll stick to my guns and leave it up to headcannon ;P

Since the name "Chronos" is out-of-universe, the redundancy isn't important. (Although I'm sure I could try to fudge some sort of in-universe justification too if those were in-universe names anyway)

Note that arguments relating to the second law of thermodynamics rely on the incorrect assumption that entropy was lower in the past than it is now.

This line is confusing. How is that incorrect ?

Basically, IRL one of the main arguments for a single -directional “time arrow” is related to the fact that entropy always increases. This means that, assuming entropy used to be considerably smaller than it is now, we already having something of an explanation for the progression of time.

In the real world, this assumption appears to hold, but in the SCP universe (or at least in this skip), it doesn’t. The line you quoted addresses this difference between IRL and in-universe physics, if you will.

If linear time is due to observation rather than entropy, does that mean that in-universe observation predates the universe?
